Officiants or Priests that will marry you outside of a church?

Hi everyone! Hopefully someone can help me.......

I am getting married at the same location my reception is. I am looking for a priest preferably that will marry outside of a church.

I have received all my sacraments but my fiance hasnt. I want a priest because i heard if a priest doesnt marry you, in the furture your children wont be able to be baptized....I know, im thinking way ahead of myself BUT its important to me!

Anyone in the same situation as me?

He won't do that.....he is not religious at all so a church is out of the question unfortunatley.

I was told actually by a priest out east (that wouldnt travel the distance to my location) that he would marry us outside the church......

Is he a Catholic priest?

You should ask him if the your marriage will be recognize if it is not performed in a Church

HMMM....I dont know if I asked that. He said that we would get a marrage certificate and all.....does that mean its recognized?

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure that the Catholic Church will not recognize a marriage that is not performed in a Catholic Church building.

We are Catholic and just got married on the beach, by a retired (now married) catholic priest. It was a legal marriage, but it if the ceremony is not in the church the Vatican does not recognize it. That really didn't matter to us.
However, it is NOT true that if you get married outside the church you cannot baptize your children. Every church is different of course, but I know my church will baptize any child. Plus I've been to many baptisms where the parents weren't even married. If your church told you that you may want to look into baptizing elsewhere.

I did a LOT of research on this when we decided to have a beach wedding!

I have a very good family friend who is a priest...the only time you can get married outside of the church is if its on holy ground....its very liberal wording and basically that means that something has to be permanently in the ground to be blessed...like a gazebo, but being on the beach is not ok because its not a permanent fixture. Even then if the place is blessed it needs to be approved by your diocese, and they can say no. Its really silly!! My cousin was married by this priest and even though the diocese the ceremony was taking place in said ok, their home parish said no...they had to have a ceremony the week b4 to be official in the church...and then they were married by our priest at the rh...

Its not worth the aggravation to me, on the churches behalf or my family if my marriage isnt recognized by the church, so a big church wedding it is for us!
