Got the mail today and got a jury summons. I am not happy. If I do not go to work I do not get paid, and I know they will pay me but not what I get paid at work... and I have never been called to jury duty before. Funny thing is that right after I went for our marriage license last February I got a questionnaire as well as Dh got one too! This is the thank you I guess I get from the county for getting married. :( If this is the way they might pick people .... It is stand by jury duty- telephone call in... I do not want to be picked for a case. I am freaking out. Any advice would be happily appreciated.

Are you an exempt employee? Do you get paid by 'salary'? If so, there should not be any deduction made to your salary for at least the first 2 weeks that you serve jury duty.
If you are a non-exempt employee and you get paid hourly, you should receive $40 per day for the first 3 days that you serve. (unless your company has less than 10 employees)

I get paid by the hour... I work part time, but make a very nice salary. My office has 5 employess, what does that mean then? I was told i would probably serve for one day. But I am so upset- it is more of a nuisance for me. I have been thru a lot in my life- my parents are both deceased, and my FIL is a cop/ detective and treated his family very poorly, so I am hoping this will help me if they question me and I get terrible migrianes under pressure. I am glad I got it now and not during the winter when the weather can be crappy.

I just got one two and have to go since I postponed it twice. I really don't want to go... I used to throw the questionnaires away until one said I would be arrested or have to pay a $1000 fine.

You might as well get it over with now. I got called a few years ago and only served 1 day and once you serve they don't call you back for another 6 years. or is it 4? hmmm can't remember now.

I got a summons a few months ago and luckily my number was not called I would like to serve on a jury someday but this was definately a bad time!

when i got called i postponed the max number of times (twice, i believe). then i actually called and scheduled a day for myself to present, in the middle of july when the judges would be on vacation! worked like a charm - i was there for just a few hours before they let me go.
i highly recommend this strategy

I got called for Grand Jury after I accepted a job I hated so it was perfect. I had it for a month. The hours were great and I got my current job while I was on jury duty. It was like a little vacation for me. And the original new job - those morons paid me for the month I was on jury duty after one week of being employed there! They weren't too happy when I called and said I wouldn't be coming back.
