Re: oh my mom is in so much trouble!
Really? Because I was always under the impression that Jews didn't, probably stemming from the fact that if a wedding is a Saturday night then the RD 'shouldn't' be Friday night because of Shabbat. I thought it was that though there isn't anything 'wrong' with having one, it just wasn't traditionally done.
I'm having one anyway, though we are having issues figuring it out because my FH wants it Saturday night in the city instead of Saturday night on LI, and I want it either Thursday night in the city or Saturday night on LI, since my wedding is the day after Yom Kippur and I will be on LI all day Saturday fasting/repenting and don't want to have to wait to eat until I get to the city.
I never heard that they didn't have favors...

Traditionally they don't but it is not because they can't! Do what you want! FH was totally clueless about favors but he knows we are doing them!

Re: oh my mom is in so much trouble!
Jews dont do them bc ...who knows why?
bc people like mom spread the rumor! lol
i mean who says a RD has to be the night before?
but the fri night does make sense although if you were getting married sun afternoon you could do sat night after sundown if you observed....which my mom doesn't! lol

My thinking is... meh... who cares? If you want a RD, have one. If you don't, don't have one!

FH's mom told me the same thing!! She said Jews don't do favors, didn't you know that?? It doesn't make sense because everyone gives out favors for Bat/Bar Mitzvahs, why not weddings??

OMG I had SUCH issues convincing my mom that this date was okay. But then I talked to my rabbi, who said that the day after Yom Kippur is actually considered a good luck day to get married.
And my thinking is... the day of fasting will make me extra skinny!
