Oh No!!

FH and I are driving to Maine this evening. I have my final dress fitting and my mom and 2 bridesmaids are throwing me a shower sunday. FH might have pink eye!! They have been bothering him since yesterday. He doesn't have health insurance. is there something we can buy in a drug store that will make them feel better?

ughhh so sorry to hear all that I do think pink eye requires antibiotic drops. Maybe there is an OTC alternative, I'd check w/ the pharmacist!

Sorry to hear all that. I think for Pink eye you have to go right to the dr. I don't believe there is something over the counter that you can buy! He needs antibiodic eye drops or cream!! Most likely eye drops!

Your wedding day is approaching!! How exciting!!!

My Boss had pink eye and he said his doctor told him to put warm compresses on his eye. This sounds funny but he said his dr told him to put a potato in the microwave for 1 min and wrap it with a paper towel and put it on your eye for 10 minutes, its supposed to shrink it. Along with an over the counter product called 'Fresh eye' it flushes the dirt and junk out of your eyes. Took a few days to get rid of. Hope I helped

Def ask the Pharmacist what they can do. Sometimes if you know the Pharmacist, they can give you the medicine. Check it out. Good luck and have fun in MAINE!

I've had it. Not sure if OTC's will work, the best thing is to have the doctor call in a prescription for drops. And be careful...its very contagious!

There is def. something over the counter that will help. Antibiotic drops are the best though. Def. have him use warm compresses, every hour or so if you can.... the car will be good place for this actually - if you have a thermos, fill it with BOILING water and take a washcloth with you - you will have to drive but every so often, have him put some hot water on the thermos and leave it on his eye for 10-15 mins. Or stop at rest stops when you can and get the washcloth soaked with hot water.

Good luck! And have a great time in Maine, I love it there! We are moving to NH about a year after the wedding.

Checked on WebMD and here's what they say...
Viral and bacterial pinkeye are contagious and spread very easily.
If the pinkeye is caused by a virus, the person can usually return to day care, school, or work when symptoms begin to improve, typically in 3 to 5 days. Medicines are not usually used to treat viral pinkeye, so it is important to prevent the spread of the infection.
If the pinkeye is caused by bacteria, the person can usually return to day care, school, or work 24 hours after an antibiotic has been started if symptoms have improved. Prescription antibiotic treatment usually kills the bacteria that cause pinkeye.
People with infectious pinkeye should not attend school or go to work until symptoms improve.

For home treatment they say....
Cold compresses or warm compresses (whichever feels best) can be used. If an allergy is the problem, a cool compress may feel better. If the pinkeye is caused by an infection, a warm, moist compress may soothe your eye and help reduce redness and swelling. Warm, moist compresses can spread infection from one eye to the other. Use a different compress for each eye, and use a clean compress for each application.

When cleaning your eye, wipe from the inside (next to the nose) toward the outside. Use a clean surface for each wipe so that drainage being cleaned away is not rubbed back across the eye. If tissues or wipes are used, make sure they are put in the trash and not allowed to sit around. If washcloths are used to clean the eye, put them in the laundry right away so that no one else picks them up or uses them. After wiping your eye, wash your hands to prevent the pinkeye from spreading.

Hope this helps!
