So, I just got a call from Lessing's (the caterer for the Vanderbilt @ Dowling, where I'm booked). Turns out the new president of Dowling College has decided that as of June 2011 there will be no more weddings or catered events allowed on the college grounds. So, uncheck book venue! I have to start the search all over again.

oh no! If your working with Lessings you should check the Bourn Mansion. My cousin had her wedding there and it was seriously amazing!

I'll definitely check out the Bourne Mansion. The guy I talked to said he could work with the price there to get it close to the Dowling price. We'll see... Thanks for the support girls!

Did you sign a contract? If so I would read it and see what the cancellation terms are. Obviousy there is nothing you can do to make them let you have your wedding there but if there was no clause allowing them to terminate I would use that to your advantage with other Lessing Properties.
I guess it is the lawyer speaking again.

How can they cancel your wedding when you already had it booked??? I would stomp and make a scene and tell them they have to either let you do it, or they have to let you use their other venues at no additional charge!!! thats BS

lessings' is great. I'm sure they will take care of you. They can NOT control what Dowling does. And from personal experience I can tell you no matter how much stomping you do they won't change their mind.
