My mother was laid off on Friday. The woman she works for is gradually closing her business. As a result, my mother is home with me all day as I am working - but is so depressed. I don't know what to do to cheer her up - none of the usuals are working.
There's a tiny portion of me a bit worried.
My parents offered to help pay for a portion of the wedding. Not that my mother has implied it - but I don't want them helping/offering paying for a part if its goin to be a huge stress.
Which may mean.. well.. eloping, or severely changing our wedding idea.
I hate seeing my mother depressed, so depressed and the nagging worried feeling....

Re: Oh no.. and concerns
I'm so sorry to hear that! I'd give her a little time but if she doesn't get out of her funk then I would try to talk to her about it. Maybe take her to lunch at her favorite place.
Hopefully things turn around soon and everything gets back to normal. Stay strong!

I am so sorry to hear this. Maybe this is a good opportunity for your mom to take on something she always wanted to do? like if she is into jewerly, start making some and sell it on the side and turn it into her own business.

I can understand why she is upset. Talk to her, give her time to recover, and then help her apply to jobs!! What does your mom do?

Hope she finds work/ feels better soon. Did she sign up for unemployment? It might take a little bit of the worry off her shoulders until she finds something else.

My mother works as a medical biller.... there's usually a handful of spots open because its a growing field. I'll keep my fingers crossed that she does it soon.

Re: Oh no.. and concerns
I work doing news writing, reporting, journalism and writing for freelance... There were times I was looking simply for people to follow directions and do things, but not now.
On the good news, she spoke with a head hunter who says he has a few openings.
I'm praying she finds a job fast - she's really depressed being caught at home.

My mom got laid off 3 weeks ago as a medical biller also. I felt the same exact way you feel. She was so upset and I dont want to put any wedding stress on her. Luckily she now has interviews lined up. There are a lot of jobs out there. Help your mom look for openings on the internet. HTH
