45 parrots pilfered from Long Island pet shop; police perplexed



ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - Polly doesn't want a cracker. Polly wants a rescue _ after she and 44 other parrots worth more than $1,000 each were abducted from a pet store on Tuesday.

The thief was an early bird, police said, breaking a back window of the Parrots of the World shop between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m., before the owner showed up.

The 45 stolen parrots were worth about $58,000, said Nassau County police, who didn't know how the crook got away.



The store's owner, Marc Morrone, said whoever ripped him off knew where the surveillance cameras were, unhooked the cages and carried them out through the big hole in the window. He said he didn't immediately notice that one of his favorite birds was among the missing.

'I was cutting up papayas for him, and I went to feed him,' Morrone said, 'and the cage was empty.'

I read that yesterday in the paper. That is just absolutely horrible!!!!!!!!! and just so sad. I hope the parrots are OK and they catch those A$$holes

I know!!!! what is wrong with people that they do this stuff? those poor birds!

I heard about this.. just awful.. I hope they catch the a$$holes!!
He's such a nice guy and his store is great-he didn't deserve this!!

i know he is soo nice.. ive called him a couple times and gone in about my turtle and he was so helpful and most of the time i didnt even buy anything.

We love going into the store either to buy or just for fun. First we hit up International Delight Cafe though .

OMG!!!! I know Marc!! We bought our birds from him when I was a kid!!

its so effin disgusting the way people treat animals. i can't believe someone would steal 45 birds like its nothing. ugh
