ok confusing invite question....

ok confusing invite question....

So since day one of my engagement I have been stressin over the wording of our invites... heres the thing. My parents are footing most of the bill they are divorced btw, my FH's Dad is helping as well and agreed to pay for his side, and His mother sadly passed away when he was 13.... we are undecided if we write her on the invite.... he is thinking he wants to, but does this sound weird or morbid?

Mr. Jerry(insert last name, and Ms. Michele____ request the honor of your presence at the marriage of their daughter

Shauna
to
Matthew

Son of Mr. Alfredo____ and the late Ms. Susan Ann____

Also his Dad is not the most reliable and yes he agreed to pay for his guests but he can be finiky and might change his mind a year from now. We asked him if he wanted to make some of the early payments to avoid him changing his mind in the end, but he said no. So we pray he keeps his word, and obviously the invotes have to be ordered before the final payment is due. So is it better maybe that we don't put his parents at all, and just tell him that is tradition... he is from Portugal and honestly wouldn't know the difference....

AHHHH What to do?!?!?!!

My sister's husband's mom died a few months before the wedding. They did the invite exactly like yours except for the 'son of' part, they did not put that she was 'late' or anything like that, they just put his father and mother's names. I think it is nice to keep his parent's names on the invite, but in the way that you have it ('son of').

i am in a similar situation. my parents are paying for the RH, shower, my day of accessories, FMIL is paying for the RD & all the flowers, FH & I are taking care of everything else. FH's dad (who i call FFIL) passed away 2 years ago so i knew him for 7 years.

when i approached my parents about this they said of course FMILs name would be included on the invite. when i said i wanted to include FFIL too my mom said it was too morbid. so i was looking on-line for ideas & i have noticed some people so include it.

what i am going to do is have two samples made up one with his name & one without & then take votes amongst me, FH, my parents & FMIL to see which we all like best.

My parents are divorced and paying for the wedding, FH's parents are still married and paying for the RD and HM.

I'm debating between 'The parents of' or 'Donald and Linda x' and 'Mr. & Mrs. Michael x'

I think it's nice to acknowledge FH's mother, knowing that she will definitely be there in spirit. I'm inclined to say take out 'the late' but then again, some people may not know she passed and might be asking you or FH where she is.

I think the way you have it now is perfect, i MIGHT take out the 'late' part about his mom.

Both my dad and steve's dad passed away years ago and we are still including their names on the invite.

I figure, regardless of if they are here are not they are our fathers regardless.

She is definatly there in spirit and in our hearts. So I guess I was questioning more about whether or not to put 'late'.

Most people there will know she has passed and we are going to light a memorial candle in her name during the ceremony so those who didn't know will know then. Maybe we should just leave it at that

Re: ok confusing invite question....

i would just keep his dad in and make sure you have the money to back up his portion, also my FH father also passed away 7 years ago i actually have not talked to him about it yet but i think we will be putting his name in the invite it will be
christopher (last name)
son of carol (LN) and the late ronald (ln) somthing like that i just have to check with fmil but i think she would want him mentioned my fh was very close to his dad and luckly i was around and also knew him!!
We are paying for the whole thing ourselves but we are having our parents mention. it nice since the raised us they just dont have the money to help

I agree with the others that it looks really nice and just maybe with taking out the 'late'. Otherwise I think it is very thoughtful and makes sense to keep it that way.

Barbara Kristin _____
and
Michael James_____

request the honour of your presence
blah blah blah.

But I think what you came up with is perfect! It doesn't sound morbid at all. Actually a 09er, Dani did that as well. If you look on the 09 board she just posted a link to her proofs....check out her invitation album.

Ohh lol! I just realized I left half of what I wanted to say out! LOL!

What I wanted to say was that I had a very hard time with my invitations as well.
My parents are separated and my Dad just passed a few months ago, and FHs parents are divorced.

So we just decided to do:

Together with our families
Barbara Kristin _____
and
Michael James_____

request the honour of your presence
blah blah blah.

OK.. now that's better! LOL Sorry!
