When we are exchanging rings, what finger do we put the wedding bands on?? Right or left??
I ask because FH can't wear it on his right hand because he has problems with the tendons in that hand and he got the ring fitted for the left hand. I, on the other hand had mine fitted for the right hand, because I thought it was the right hand they go on.
So which is it?? Thanks!!

Re: OK, Here's a DUMB Question
They are traditionally worn on the left ring finger. I believe that started because the majority of people are right handed therefore the ring is less likely to get too damaged on the left hand.

its always been the left because the left is closest to your heart.

Re: OK, Here's a DUMB Question
Some women choose to move their engagement ring to their right hand.. but traditionally your wedding band remains on your left hand always.

Re: OK, Here's a DUMB Question
It goes on your left ring finger... reasoning is that there is a vein in that finger that runs to your heart, so it is the closest to your heart...
there are no dumb questions!!!!

Re: OK, Here's a DUMB Question
it is about the vein from that finger running to the heart. however, the european tradition is actually the right hand too. my fsil is from europe and my fbil wears it on his right hand although he does alternate.

I'm not positive on this but some of the greek girls on here might know the whole story. Supposedly (according to ffil) it is greek tradition to get married with the wedding bands on the right hand. I don't know what the reasoning is behind this though.
Most Americans wear the wedding band on the left ring finger and the engagement ring on the same finger. band going on first and then e ring on next.

There are no dumb questions that is what this board is for.
I believe that you wear your wedding band first and then your engagement ring on your left hand b/c there is a vein in that finger that runs directly to your heart.

Re: OK, Here's a DUMB Question
IT IS YOUR LEFT HAND YOU WILL BE USING FOR THE BOTH OF YOU. BEFORE YOU WALK DOWN THE ISLE, PUT YOUR E_RING ON YOUR RIGHT HAND (RING FINGER OR PINKY). AFTER YOUR DH PUTS THE WEDDING BAND ON YOU, YOU CAN THEN MOVE YOUR E-RING TO THAT SAME FINGER. THE WEDDING BAND IS ALWAYS CLOSETS TO THE HEART. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU CLARIFY

Actually, if you want to be technical, the vein in question is in the index finger, not the ring finger. But yes the ring does go on the left hand.
I should mention that some religions require the ring to be on the right hand, and I'm not sure which or why.
