One of FH's best friends and someone he asked to be a GM is signed up to go back to the army. So he doesn't know when his basic training starts and basically can't commit to actually being AT the wedding. With him we have an even number on each side of the BP, and we don't wanna ask an extra guy in case this GM CAN be there.....what do we do???

Just let it be... my wedding is so lop sided I have no idea how to make these people walk down the aisle.

Just plan for him and if he can't make it, then have one guy walk with two girls. It's no big deal if the BP isn't even.

you should just shove them all down in a clump and be done with it

I'd leave it be. If he is there great, if not then you have different numbers. No biggie

we had an even amount of ppl.. but the girls were taller than the guys so i had the groomsmen wait with DH at the altar and had the bms walk alone.

ask someone else, have him do something else like a reading or something, or ALL the readings (if you're doing them), but have a backup just incase.

My friend had the bridal party walk individually (no partner) down the aisle. She had lopsided numbers. You can always do that.
Or double up if needed.

Leave it alone for now. If you're short one member on ur day, then double up on one. For example: 2 BM for 1 GM

Re: OK, how do we plan for this?
ugh we are having a similar problem.... one of the GMs ended up going to rehab and now he wants to enroll in the army. I have a major case of OCD and cannot have an uneven bridal party. I have someone in mind to ask to be a replacement in the event that this guy ends up shipping off somewhere....

Actually, that's probably my best option.

Let it be. DH's GM is in the Marines and we didn't know until a few days before the wedding if he'd make it. Since there wasn't time to get the same suit, he wore his Marine dress uniform for the ceremony and pics and changed into a regular suit for the reception (since you're not supposed to par-tay in military dress attire).

I'd say just make plan A) who will walk with who if he is there and B) who will walk with who if he isn't there. If he isn't there, just pair 2 BMs up with 1 GM.

We had lopsided bridal party and one of my BMs was more than happy to walk in with two guys. Its totally fine.

We kinda have a similar situation. One of our groomsmen got a promotion at his job and has to live in Singapore for 2 years starting right before our wedding. He said he is trying to push it back so he can make it to the wedding. We won't ask someone else to take his place if he can't make it, but we sure will miss him.
