ok.. how do you try on the wedding dresses.....?
when they don't have your size! I went to two places on Saturday.. they told me to pick out dresses and try them on.. I said don't you need my size? she said no.. so I am looking at dresses that are a 8 and 10.. which is fine, but I wear a 14.. I could get the dresses on, but that was about it.. This was the first time I looked at dresses, and I was so upset, not to mention that the lady helping me was no where to be found.. I am going to have to loose like 20 pounds before I can even go back.. I just don't know what to do.. are they any salons that have a large amount of samples in various sizes, with nice dresses.. HELP!

Plus size and Depressed about finding a dress..
I am much bigger than a size 14 and can not even get the dress on at all. It is so depressing and embarrassing. I have put off buying the dress to the very last minute (6 months prior) and now need to find one. I have been to several places but still no luck. And forget about David's bridal, I was in tears when I left there (because of all the chaos). Let me know if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks

SOLUTION for you - my experience
I am a size 18 and I just ordered a dress yesterday where the sample was a 6. This is what you HAVE TO DO: you need to go to places like RK Bridal that have tons of dresses in size 14, 16, 18, 20 and higher and try on EVERY dress just to see what style and cut looks best on you. Not every larger woman is proportioned the same so when they tell you that you must get A line or don`t get this or that you need to see for yourself. I tried on A-line, Sheath (yes, believe it or not), ballgown, all different waistlines and discovered what looked best on me. Unfortunately, I didn`t like any of the dress that were in those sizes but that was OK. At least after trying them all on I was confident that I knew which styles look best so when I but on a size 6 sample I could actually tell if the cut would be flattering or not. Another suggestion would be to have the dress custom made (which was what I was originally going to do) and I know a great dressmaker in NYC if you are interested. If you have any questions PLEASE FEEL FREE to e-mail me at [email protected]. Good luck and don`t get upset - WE are all going to look gorgeous!!!!

Me too!
Im a size 14 too and I really think it depends on the store. I went to Kleinfelds and was able to try on everything (just not zip it up). They were more than helpful in trying to give me a sense of what my size would look like. When I went to Saymels, they just keep pushing me to try on thier size 20 samples (if anyone is interested, they do have a few). Those samples were just not my style and they were not very helpful. Hope that helps.

I'm aplus size woman too...
Don't get upset. Love your body, your fiance does!! I went to Saymels in Astoria they have all dress sizes. The lady asked what size do I wear then took a good look at my body to see what size I would wear in a gown and brought out some rally nice dresses. They didn't fit perfect of course but they were more my size. Maybe you have to be a bit more aggressive or demanding and ask them for dresses for plus size women. If they give you a small dress size just tell them that your not going to waste your time puttin on a too small dress that you can't tell if it's the right dress for u.

RK Bridal is located at . . .
318 W 39th St. b/t 8th and 9th Ave. They are not the most helpful of people but I didn`t care (you don`t even need an appointment). I just went through the racks and picked out every dress that would fit (even if I didn`t like them) just to get a good idea of what cut and style flattered me the most. Size doesn`t determine what looks good - everyone is shaped differently no matter how big or small you are. Don`t settle for a gown you do not love. You do not have to buy a plus size gown but you should try them on to see what looks good and then order whichever gown is cut similarly but with the details that you love. Also do not forget that alterations will be done to make it perfect on you!

Nicky...
My experience was the opposite. I wear a Size 14 so I can fit into the size 10 (without zipping up all the way) but the size 20s were way too big. I didnt like the styles she was bringing out b/c she was trying to push the size 20 dresses she had in stock. Other stores made it a more comfortable experience for me while Saymels did not. Lots of other brides have had wonderful experiences there - I just think my consultant was impatient.

I think it does depend on the store
as SonicStef stated. I too am a 14, and was able to get my butt into almost every dress I tried on! Most I couldn`t zipper, but as long as you can get it on, you can visualize what the dress will look like when it actually fits. I also went to David`s bridal, just to see how different styles feel. Try going to a few smaller boutiques - surprisingly, some also have different sizes.

ok.. how do you try on the wedding dresses.....?
Try RK bridal. Some people mistake them for a discount store, but they're not. They have a discount store and they have a no-frills method, and they have a regular store with wedding gowns by all the popular designers in various price ranges-I saw a dress for $550 there and one for $4,500. They have sooo many dresses by so many designers. The prices are comparable to places I saw in Manhasset, Long Island- $50 difference for the same exact dress. So try it on at RK and order it at a store near you if you don't want to travel. RK has many sizes, but in other places you can try on dresses that don't fit you just to get a feel- I think it's better to try on a smaller one that you can't zip then one that is swimming on you. At least you can get a feel for it. But at RK you can try it on in your size. Which is nice. Even someone who is a size 2 has trouble trying a sample size 10 on so don't feel bad. If a sales person doesn't make you feel like the most beautiful bride in the world, go somewhere else. And don't get a dress just b/c someone tells you it flatters you, get your dream dress that makes you feel like a beautiful bride. If you love your dress, you will glow and look stunning!

Nicky & Bride to be; PLUS SIZED DRESSES
Hi, I'm plus sized also try Bridal suite's of Centereach. I tried everywhere. They have a great selection to try on. They will not show you anything that doesn't come in your size. They also have reasonable caps on alterations. Ask for Debbie if you can she was great to me. Good Luck :-)

Sorry to hear that, that shouldn't have happened especially w/ something as special as looking for wedding dresses. I admit that my MOH and one of the BM do not like that store because they are pushy and snotty. We were there this past weekend so I can try on my headpiece sample and one of the girls attitude was a bit strong towards me. My BM said she would never set foot in that store again!!Welcome New Vendors
