ok, so im going to look at my first apartment today-as in the first one ever
and im now freaking out-on paper it looks almost perfect for us
and fh isn't going with me-will they let me take pics?

i would ask about the parking situation (some places provide parking, some provide a certain number of spots, some provide none).
i'd google maps the neighborhood as well and make sure it's not too close to a train or anything (they'll deny it, but you can def hear trains if they're very close)

If you have a digital camera you should also have a video mode which might work better then pics.

ask about pets. Some if not all apartments charge you a fee for pets, small pet is a smaller fee, etc.

DEFINITELY take pictures.
Oh and I thought of another question, other than what I gave you earlier...ask for the measurements and if they don't know them ask if you can take them (bring a tape measure). It helps to see if you have furniture and want to know if it'll fit or if you'll need to buy how big you can go!!

You could ask about what is included. heat, gas, etc?
Is there a super that lives in the building?
Any problems with roaches, mice, etc?
Look inside the cabinets. Inspect everything!!
Oh, you can ask about when the last time they did work on it was.

Ask about maintenence, and how they handle that!
Also, my mom always tells me to run from places that say they've never had problems w/ bugs before...every apartment does at SOME point, it's just a matter of how they handle it.
