there was like no cars on the road my whole way to work, plus I pulled into the parking lot at nine and normally if you arent here before nine, all the spots are gone, the whole last row was completely empty

Please I know! I left my house a 1/2 later than usual, got a great spot at the train station AND got a seat on an express train ... everyone is off today - I'M SO JEALOUS!!!!

I am off and loving it!! I have a whole pajama day (and quarter grades day) planned for today!!! But I think when you take the teachers off the road and the school buses that it does make a huge difference.

I left late too and my commute was cut by like 8 minutes lol its only like 18 to begin with

Even though it's a holiday AND I work in D.C., it STILL took me almost an hour and a half to get to work. Because the metro is on Saturday schedule and I missed the first train, I got stuck waiting for like 15 minutes for the next one, then the exit from the station that I take closes on holidays so I had to use a different exit and walk a lot farther to get to my office (and ok, I stopped for coffee).
But at least I got a good parking spot at the metro lot and parking is free today (plus, HOV restrictions are lifted).
Oh, AND I got to dress casual.
But I'm still mad I don't have today off

Im working, and im busy for a change. I leave my house at 6:45 and I usually get stuck in sooo much traffic. The roads were so great this morning. It only took me 20 minutes to get to work where it usually takes me 35

Yep.. I LOVE this holiday..
I don't mind working when I think about what my family and those others have served have done for me. I agree vets should have the day off... but my father would never take advantage of it. He'd tell you that he fought in our wars to keep the right to work hard on the days he could, while he still can.
If I have to work thank god it's an easy commute.
I just sit here working (or here on liweddings) thinking of all the men & women in the past, present and future who would do anything to trade places with me today.
I tried to get in the military but have a hearing issue. I'm proud of them. Wish them well and don't mind working.

Tammy: HI!! :) Yes. Our drive to the train station isn't long to begin with, but we always hit some sort of traffic. There was NONE today. The train wasn't as packed either.

i'm working today but at least i got a seat on the subway as soon as i got on!
and anniegrl i feel your pain. i worked in dc for 3 years, and for 1.5 years i lived in a part of silver spring where i needed to take an express bus to the metro, but it didn't run at all on holidays and i always had to work on veterans day, columbus day etc. it was a real pain in the neck to take the i-stop-every-10-feet bus. god their transportation needs help!!

I am working, My train was empty, they are re doing our parkign lot at the train station so usually the one we do have is packed by 7am and cars are lining the residential streets, not today it was EMPTY! But I am convinced that there are always train problems on 'holidays' because LIRR headquarters are closed so I am anticipating a bad commute home!
