OK, I'm SO nervous and I need all of your wonderful minds to help me! :)

So, as I posted last week, I unexpectedly got a music teacher position for this upcoming year. I was a traveling music teacher last year and did not have a classroom, so I am stumped as to what I need in my room this year (besides the obvious music equipment). Any suggestions on good things to have in my classroom, whether they be decorations or anything else? Thank you girls so much! (PS-I'm teaching 1st-8th grade, so I can do cutesy!)

OK, seriously...maybe a big calendar? some big music notes? Pics of instruments and some history about each? ???

how about some pictures of different instruments and a brief history about them.

maybe pictures of famous classic musicians and some popular musicians.

I think pics of musicians are a good idea too, with some history about them.

You are gonna be GREAT, don't sweat it! It's always nerve racking starting a new job, but you're gonna be great! Hey, how many other teachers in that school are gonna be able to do 'Carmen' Like you do??? NONE!!! You'll rule the school!!

I would definitly put up pictures of famous musicians and singers and brief bios about them. From classical musicians to britney spears type musicians. The kids will connect with the newer artist right off the bat. Definitly put up pics of different instruments from the U.S., but also try and find some cultural instrument pics from other countries to put up.

Great Ideas Boop! So, you girls inspired me. I'm going to do a 'Composers Hall of Fame' on the wall. I'll start with some composers, but leave plenty of room for the kids to add, and everytime we finish going over a composer, I'll let them add them to the Hall of Fame. Then I'll do one for Musicians or Singers, and start it for them, then let them add. Yay, thanks girls!

I always liked the idea of seeing physical sheet music - maybe putting up some songs from pop music to twinkle twinkle little star. this way kids can get an idea of what music Looks like instead of just what it sounds like?

This is not really music-related, but you will need some bulletin board borders. I'm sure there are borders that are music-related, but you can get smily faces or something colorful. There is a teacher's store in Brooklyn I go to get this stuff and it does cater towards elementary school teachers. But I don't know if this is too far for you. I would check out teacher's stores for ideas as well.

That is so cool! Congrats first of all. But what about some music icons pictures and a little history on each? Starting with Chopin and Beethoven then branching out to Elvis and the Beatles and then todays music but with some cleaner kids like Mandi Moore and Aron Carter? I don't think Lil Kim would be a good one. hehehe.

Or a music time line?
