OK, MAJOR PROBLEM!!! Very personal- My apologies

Please help me! Not sure of what to do!
Today is August 25th. My wedding is September 20th. Last week on August 20th exactly, I had a sort of 'woman's' procedure that had to happen on that day. Today I went back for my follow up appointment and the doctor said that the next time I would get my period was the 18th or 19th of September. This is the day before my wedding! Even then, who knows if I would be regular? So I am freaking that if I don't do anything, I will be 5 ibs heavier on my wedding day, bloated for my dress, moody and depressed for my new husband and bleeding on my wedding night. He said I couldn't take the pill right now because it wasn't the right time in my cycle.
After I begged him, he said reluctantly that I could take it now- and just skip the placebos near the wedding, but is that safe? I've really never been on the pill in my life... Should I start messing this up now? So late in the game? Is this going to work? And what of the bloating, weight gain and side effects? Would I still get that near/on the day? Or should I just close my eyes and let nature take its course?
Sorry so personal......

Hmmm, you're talking exactly ONE month to get on the pill. IMO you won't get any benefit from it. You could try, but it may not work. Not only that, but some women get a yeast infection when they first try the pill.
Good Luck

If you've never been on the pill, now's not the time to try it. Friends of mine have had 'breakthrough bleeding' for WEEKS!! I became an emotional basket case on the first one I tried, crying every day for no reason. The thing about it is, they all have different doses of stuff and you never know how YOU'RE going to react to it b/c everyone's different. Sometimes you have to try several in the first few months until you get a 'fit'.
You could luck out on the first try, but just be aware of these very common side effects. I know it's your wedding night and this is huge, but your health, and your physical well-being really are more important.
Not to be too gross but you could still have your wedding night !#*@ and use a c*nd*m, (can I say that here?) depending on how heavy it is.
Good luck!!!!

Wow.
You guys had it rough. i think it depends on the person and the drug. I had no problems with my pill ever.

No, it wont hurt to take the pill straight through, especially if it's your first go around. They just don't want you to make a habit of it.

There's an urban legend that if you take the pill all the time and skip all the sugar pills you'll lose your period all the time. This isn't a good idea as your body has to be regulated. We need to have a period.

I can't advise you enough to try to stay calm. Go get a massage and relax as much as you can. If the doc says go through the pack, then go through the pack. Think midol and other bloating remedies if you're worried. But remember.. stress effects your period too. Too much can cause delay or early set off. For me I'm usually delayed if I stress too much and Im on the pill!

Good luck!!

I was going on vacation and was scheduled to get my period that time...so my MD told me to also skip the placebos and I wouldn't get my period that month at all.

WELL I followed her instructions and instead, I got my PERIOD FOR THE ENTIRE MONTH!

Just be careful about skipping the placebos, because I've heard of other girls that experienced what I experienced.

I never had any side affects with the pill. Everyone's body reacts differently. What I did was take the first pack and on the third week started the new pack so I was doubled up for one week then continued with the rest of the pack and my period came as scheduled after our wedding and honeymoon. Worked like a charm. good luck!!!

September, I had to skip the placebo 2x last year in order to 'clear the schedule' for the wedding and HM'! Everything went according to plan with absolutely no complications! Good Luck! Tell Aunt Flow to behave!

I have actually skipped the placebos several times to adjust my cycle dates and never had problems. I've been on the pill 10 years and sometimes your cycle does land on Valentine's day or a special weekend. I asked my DR and have done what KarenK mentioned and also skipped placebos to re-arrange my period dates.

If your DR saids to try it, you might as well. Just monitor how you feel.

I hope you are having a smooth recovery!

Good luck!

Sept20yay: While I know that you totally don't want your period the day of your wedding and all that goes with it - maybe you shouldn't try to go on the pill now and skip the placebos - personally I would be too nervous about the whole thing in case the pill wasn't effective by the time of the wedding. Yes you will be bleeding and a bit bloated but maybe it's better to let things heal right than take the pill right away. I don't know. I have been through medical problems (not like yours) and my experience is to let things heal and not push yourself or anything to make it heal quicker or whatever. If you were to go on the pill, and take the placebos when you should normally, your period won't be as heavy. However, the other girls are right - it sometimes (not all the times) takes awhile to get used to it and sometimes you have to ask the doctor to modify the dosage if you find you are too moody or weepy - my friend had to have her dr. do that for her and now she's fine.

I take the orthro-evra patch - same idea just 1 patch each week for first 3 weeks of my cycle, and no patch the 4 week (when I menstruate). Unfortunately, I cannot tell you the effectiveness of it because at the time I got on it, I was right at the weight the drug manufacturer says it might not be as effective (and I gained since then, but not becasue of the patch, I won't go into it) so we use a backup. But it has made me more regular and less b*tchy.

As for bloat, drink water. Exercise too. Maybe water pill? I wouldn't mess with that unless you're desperate though and talk to Dr. first before you take a water pill.

I'm sure it will all work out in the end, and I hope you feel better soon =)

if you don't want to try the pill..... to decrease the pms symptoms try to eat right and exercise (don't laugh it helps) avoid caffeine, vitmain B6 and the decrease the flow try ibuprofen 400mg twice a day at start of period

good luck and remember it will all woek out in the end!

I've been using the pill for about 6 years. I have never had any problems with it no irregular bleeding or moodiness.
I have never taken it continually I just read an article that if you do try to take it constanly in the beginning you may have some problems with spotting or in some cases you can bleed for a month straight. The article said that it can take a few months for your body to get used to it. I think that it was in this months Marie Clare or Allure.

Although you have probably resolved this by now, I would recommend the patch and just use it on the week that you are supposed to not use it. Then continue through the cycle until the next break. I was a bit of a problem with the breakthrough bleeding, etc. on pills, but the patch has almost no side effects. Because it is a regulated dosage without the spikes of hormones that pills create, you have less chance of problems. I hope you find all this info helpful and not too confusing, and I wish you a lot of luck.
