OK - need some help on the whole solids thing...

I went to the doctor for my 4 months visit and he told me I could start solids - so he told me to start with the cereals and go through all three and then begin veggies and fruits - well I haven't been back to him (and he didn't give me much info. on the veggies and fruits) I know he will give me more info. @ my 6 month visit which is in about 3 weeks - So this is why I need some help -
I just started the veggies -
Finally the question...
HOW MUCH?
I bought the stage 1 Gerbers - and 1 jar lasts me for 3 feedings -
I follow the Book 'What to Expect the First Year'
They talk a lot about solids - however, they don't say how much either.
Should I be feeded solids 3 x's a day - I only give them twice -
The doctor told me that the baby will tell you - But, O. Catherine is so easy and passive I'm not sure if she'd be telling me - What ever I give her is fine.
Do I feed her until she doesn't take anymore? I haven't been doing this - I've been just giving a little for breakfast with her normal bottle - and then some with dinner again, with her bottle.
She has 30 oz's a day of formula -
Is this ok - or am I underfeeding my poor child?
She will be 6 months on the 20th of this month?
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The goal (from what Ive heard from the Dr) is to make sure the baby is getting enough formula. That is priority.

When we started solids, he'd have 1/2 jar per feeding, and that QUICKLY changed to 1 jar and then 2 or 3.

I think trying 1/2 jar per feeding should be fine. If she takes more, maybe one jar at the most, since shes just starting.

Are you putting cereal in her bottle? that will also keep her full, so dont worry about her not getting enough !

Anna,
Thank you so much - you just made me feel so much better. Sometimes it's all it takes is to have somone say your doing fine -

I am going to try and give her 1/2 a jar tonight.

I agree w/ Anna.

Helpful hints:
The cereal is usually not great tasting. Put some fruit (from the jar) in it.

When feeding your baby 1/2 food pour it into a bowl. If you feed from the jar the slaiva doesn't keep the food fresh.

DO NOT buy the Chicken/Beef broth it is DISGUSTING!!!

Tara- I have to ask you. Is your DD's name Catherine? Because you always have an O. in front of her name.

Great advice so far, I agree with it all (especially about jarred meat - ugh!). Take a cue from your daughter, she will let you know if she doesnt want more. If you are afraid she won't let on that she wants more, do it the opposite way, make more and allow her to refuse it when she's done.

I give Luke 2 meals a day and bottles in between but he's having alot more table food too so it gets blurred a bit. My ped said that as long as he is having 15 oz of formula a day, he is good. He has a nice big breakfast, 2 or 3 bottles in between and a big dinner. Then sometimes a smaller bottle before bed.

You'll fall into your own pace with it and your common sense will take over, where you are not questioning yourself. We all go through it, especially when it comes to making sure they are eating enough.

Take lots of pics of her eating, she will get neater. My guy was so messy in the beginning and he's gotten so much better, I guess because he's not so focused on getting his hands in there to get the full total sensory experience

Liz-what kinds of table foods are you giving Luke? Im a chicken to start on too many things.
My mother would give him a chicken drumstick or a meatball if I didnt stop her !
