OK OK I know - but (tipping!!)

OK OK I know - but (tipping!!)

Yes I know there are a million posts on this, and yes I just searched through many of them, but I have not found what I am looking for.

My biggest concern right now is the hair/makeup people. They both work independently of any salon/business, so all the money is going straight into their pockets.
For me and my mom, the total will be almost $500. So we're supposed to tip another 20%? That would be another $100!!!

What did everyone else do or is planning to do in this situation- where the people perfoming the services are the OWNERS.

I am always a generous tipper- I know these people usually work hard and get paid very little - but that is when they work for someone else. When they are working for themselves, all the money goes to them.

I'm also having hair and make-up done by people that work independently, and our hair bill will be almost $900!!!

I sort of feel like it's inappropriate to tip in those situations. Tips are usually just for people that are salaried and are not the owners of the business and in my opinion, it's a little insulting to try and tip someone that owns their own business...(JMO)

I plan on tipping BUT not as much as if they were just an employee of a salon.

I agree, too.

For me and my mom, our makeup will be about 230. My hair will be about 100 (don't know yet). But all of that is in cash, and goes right to the girls themselves, so if I DO tip, it will be a gesture, not an obligatory percentage.

I tipped 20% just like usual. I always tip -- I can't see why I wouldn't under these circumstances (and yes both my hair and make up were owners).

I'm going to be a little different here, Lauren. I like to tip when someone does a good job on my hair, make up, etc, esp if they added a special touch. My hair person is the owner, but she is opening her salon 3 hours early to accomodate me, my BM will each have one of the other hair dressers, so I want to give them a small tip as a token of my appreciation (like $50 for mine, maybe $25-30 for my girls). JMO.
