Ok so has anyone.....

so has anyone been told that they are going to have pretty much a tacky wedding b/c they are not doing stuff right.

My FH's grandma, god bless her soul, , has told me I am doing everything wrong with our wedding. First my girls dresses are tea length, except for my sister who is in a long dress, and they are red WHICH GOD FORBID IS WRONG. hahaha then she is mad that none of my girls are in matching SATIN shoes, ok what year are we in sorry, then we are having low flowers not high elaborate ones. Oh and thennnnnnn I am not wearing a tiara so what is WRONG WITH ME. JESUS and I know I an using alot of holy words but who's business is it anyway. My wedding will not be tacky it will be perfect b/c it is oursssssss not someone elses and I just want to say put a sock in it, but again I DON'T WANT TO BE THE RUDE ONE NOW

Wow! We are so sorry to hear that. Your wedding is going to be so beautiful. It's the way that you and your FH want it. We also think it is beautiful. I also had to learn from this sometimes stressful wedding planning to brush this and that every once in a while or I just would really get upset. I know people should be happy that we are all getting married.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Don't let the comments get to you. It's yours and FH's wedding, so it should be the way you both want it to be. You also have to remember that your grandma comes from a different time and weddings were very different back then, so what she may have done for hers could've even been considered tacky by her own mom or grandmother. Don't sweat it--it'll be beautiful and she'll love it.

heheheheh.... sounds like we're getting some of the same comments

Our BM's and flower girl will be wearing ivory and black... I was notified in march by FMIL that it's very bad luck for any female family member to wear black at the wedding

I'm ignoring it

I get funny looks when I tell people my colors are black and red. They are like 'Oh, black would be nice'

Many people will have opinions about your wedding, unless you are doing it to please them, do what makes you and FH happy!!! I have had people in my life TELL me what's right and what's wrong. Maybe, just maybe if they were contributing, I might take their opinions into consideration. But since I am paying for this alone w/ FH, we make all the decisions and we're doing what makes us happy!!!!!!

i feel like a lot of family members, esp. older ones, try to relive their own weddings through yours, and the generation gap often leaves them feeling like you're doing everything wrong. it's your wedding, and you should do it exactly as you want it - I'm sure there were parts of her wedding she didn't really like but she kinda had to go along with because parents planned everything in those days. on the day of, you'll look so beautiful and she'll be so happy that she won't even remember what she was complaining about!

tune ppl out when they chime in like that. i thinki its tacky of ppl to share their opinions on something when its not asked for! esp on someones wedding which they are excited for and are planning all the details.

I too am doing:
-tealength dresses (tho we're looking for matching shoes), instead of floor length. we want a really nice but more casual feel, its a beachy theme, and its gonna be freakin hot lol
-low CPs instead of high elaborate. just my preference.
-Im not wearing a veil OR tiara. i feel like i look like a tool w/ either of them on my head.

And I dont think my wedding will be tacky AT ALL. i think w/ the age gap...some older ppl may still prize whats 100% traditional and not understand anything different

My grandfather (off the boat Italian) said my wedding hall is going to be terrible because they only serve 1 bride at a time. So that means, they are not good enough to get more business!
Seriously?

I was just gonna say the same thing! Weird to think that one wedding at a time is wrong!

Is it an old person thing or an Italian thing?

THere are some things I was told I 'could NOT DO' b/c its not wedding-y! I think that people forget traditions and styles change....and now there is no right or wrong really

Your wedding will be beautiful no matter what anyone thinks is 'tackY'

o you are definitely not alone! As soon as we started planning FHs family ganged up on me and told me what kind of wedding we should have n what not...but then I broke down and started crying and since then they've been off my back

Other than that, our florist kind of indirectly said our wedding colors will look tacky because we want pink lily centerpieces and are having turquoise or aqua runners...she said something along the lines of 'that won't look elegant' O well, too bad...I guess I'm going for more of a fun summery feel.

So just ignore what everyone says and do what you want! And I'm sure everything will turn out BEAUTIFULLY

Oh yeah. I've been hearing that a lot. I try to ignore it, but I have to say at times it's pretty hurtful and makes me very stressed. But then I remember that the only other person I have to please with this wedding is my fiance. And I think we're going to have a beautiful wedding--FH agrees with me.. If I ever get all the pieces together!

Once I said that FI's side was going to be in kilts, all suggestions stopped dead. No one else has ANY idea how this is supposed to look. Mom hated my centerpieces/pumpkins, until I showed her a picture, and she's currently hating my hair.
Just keep soldiering on.

the only thing 'wrong' people are telling me Im doing is that im not being DEMANDING enough! can u imagine?! theyre complaing that Im giving my BM too many options because I am letting them pick out their own shoes, hair, makeup etc... HONESTLY whooooo is going to notice??!?!?

try to not let it get to you. it isss indeed YOU & FH's wedding and thats all that matters

blow it off -- everyone has something to say!

But you have the right attitude- it's not tacky because its your wedding and it will be perfect!!! People forget, weddings are for the ppl getting married, not the people attending!
