Ok, so here's my tips for a good shower!
I definitely learned a lot from throwing my sister's shower. Here's some things I think might help everyone else who is planning:
1. Instead of wasting time writing down the name of the person and the gift they gave, put a sticky not in the card with what was given. The bride can go back later on and add it to her scrapbook, etc...
2. Have a mini coctail hour for people to snack on before the bride gets there. Everyone was so surprised and HAPPY that we had this, they didn't stop talking about it!
3. Make up a fun quiz about the bride to lighten the mood a little and break the ice. I had people shout out the answers and gave prizes to those who got it right. People REALLY loosened up and had fun! I even had a question that was: 'What color underwear does Sarah have on?' And my OLD, great aunt shouted:NONE!
It got a good laugh!
4. Have a 'gag' gift waiting on the side for the bride to open up when the gift opening starts to drag. This was AWESOME at getting everyone back into the gifts! I bought my sister a Mr. Dickhead, it's like a Mr. Potatohead, but you dress up, well, you get the idea! When it got passed around, an older relative was playing with it, not knowing what it was until someone told her. That had everyone laughing for quite some time!
5. Have LOTS of prizes for people! It was like I gave them gold. I gave out a prize for EVERYTHING. People were SO happy when they left, and they loved the prizes. I bought ALL of them from Target's dollar store. I had martini shakers, pedicure sets, refrigerator pads, picture frames, etc. People were so excited.
6. Move through the gifts quickly, people really do appreciate it!
7. Have placecards. People felt very uncomfortable seating themselves, and I wish I had done them, but I listened to my mother
So I hope these tips help you, or anyone who may be planning a shower FOR you
