Houses in Norwalk and we really liked the area. So we are now doing our research and well make a decsion on whether to abandon NY or stay.
Pricess seemed the same in Norwalk, but taxes were less and community just seemed nice and quiet.

I would check out one of the smaller towns AROUND Norwalk. I grew up in Danbury, and I was under the impression that Norwalk isn't the best neighborhood.

did you check Milford? my dads family lives there and it is such a cute little town...and they have a metro north stop...
when my grandfather died (2002)...some neighbors came by and offered $170K...so I am assuming that it is possible to get affordable houses there...but my grandfather had 3 lots...so it went to a builder for more...

Would love to live in CT, but DH doesn't want to. I was researching and houses are def cheaper than on LI. Even if you spend the same amount on a house here in LI you are def getting something nicer and worth while in CT.

just be careful which neighborhoods you look at in Norwalk. I had a friend that lived in Cranbury (outside of Norwalk) - very pretty and nice area. Before that though she lived in shady area of Norwalk, I think it was Cedar Street not far from a mattress factory. Norwalk though is a cute town with lots of shopping, loved the Stew Leonards! There is also a great area called SoNo, that had bars, restaurants, etc.
Good luck in your house hunting!

We looked in Norwalk too, I loved it-close to the beach, some really cute towns. I second the idea that you need to research the areas, some parts of Norwalk are not great. Also, many of the homes there are older (before 70s). Its not a bad commute into NYC either.
Milford is out by me (Derby) so I dont think it would work to commute to NYC. Let me know if you need any additional info, I can see if our realtor can recommend anyone in Norwalk.

Thanks ladies, Himichick I may take you up on your offer.
Actually the part of Norwalk we looked at was West Norwalk, Sd is Ponus Schools which are supposed to be great.
Derby was too far. We also told her to look in Darien and Cranbury.
Thanks alot ladies

Hi Wacky -
If you want to be close to Rye, NY and still look in CT, I wouldn't go further north than about exit 18 on 95 North (I think it's Westport). Hartford is about 3 hours from NYC. What about homes in Westchester? White Plains, Harrison, Valhalla, Hartsdale... A lot of nice towns before the Tappan Zee bridge. I think there's also a town called Portchester which borders on NY/CT.
Good luck!

Actually, Hartford is only an hour and a half from NYC. I do the drive all the time. But I agree that it is way too far to commute.
