So my mom and i have not really talked in about 10 yrs (since I was 18) as a result I lost contact with my mom's entire side of the family (aunt, uncle, 4 cousins) not too long ago my aunt found me on facebook and we talked on the phone once. She sent me a message that says 'hey how are the wedding plans going, maybe we should all get together before the big day' I wasn't sure about inviting any of them yet. I mean I feel as though If I werent getting married would they be intereseted in my life???

Re: Ok weird situation here...
it sounds like its an uncomfortable situation so maybe she is using the wedding as an entry point to talk to you? sounds like a difficult decision...
I'm not sure yet. She's been trying to reconnect since I've been engaged, but its weird, she'll send me like random text message here and there but we haven't spoken. My brothers still talk to her. They are the ones who gave her my #. But she lives in Florida. I prob will inviter her. IDK the whole thing is very awkward...

Re: Ok weird situation here...
I also agree with inviting them. Maybe they are reaching out because you are getting married but maybe for good reasons. Maybe they see that you are officially starting your own life and want to be a part of it.
I understand the whole thing with certain people not talking in families as well. Most of my mom side dont talk to my aunt but I still of course am inviting everyone who ever comes comes. It is not about them it is about me and fh.
Good luck and let us know what you decide and how it works out.

Re: Ok weird situation here...
coming from a family full of grudges, i try to avoid them as much as possible, maybe im just scarred for life lol.
i also think that maybe your aunt is taking your wedding as an opportunity to start speaking with you again

Re: Ok weird situation here...
could be a difficult situation.
I think if you want to invite them then go ahead. Like everyone said, it could be a way for them to reconnect with you.
I'm always a little hesitant though just in case people have alternative motives.

What do your brothers think?
I have not really talked to them about it. To tell you the truth, I think I am ready to let go of all this anger. 10 years is long enough. What I went through (growing up w/my mom) was horrible but I believe that holding on to this anger has manifested itself in unhealthy ways. And I miss my family. I just get nervous because I have been very defensive ever since everything happened...

i think that is the best thing you could ever do.... my sister holds on to EVERYTHING , even things she doesnt remember too well (cuz she was too young) but has heard stories from others.... it can get really obsessive and you cant really move foward with your life
i dont think you should act like nothing happen and be all lovey dovey with her, but forgiving and moving on and just having an amicable relationship with her would be really good (not that i know what happened), but i just think its a kind of closure that everyone needs sometimes.... plus it'll make your day that much better (even if you dont realize it)

I don't blame you for being nervous but it sounds like it's important to you to try and move past this issue...the wedding might be that chance...

Re: Ok weird situation here...
I sort of know where you are coming from. I have an aunt who I have had a big fued with for 5 years. But I was the bigger person and I wrote her a nice letter saying its time for us to move on and that life is short.
id say, send out an invite & leave it up to them...but only do that if you know for a FACT that none of them will cause any drama at your wedding becasue you dont need that..
if you even think for a little bit that anyone might start sh!t, id say dont invite them

From what you are saying, it seems like you are ready to move forward. Obviously, I don't know what happened in your relationship with your family but it does sound like they are reaching out and want to be a part of your special day.If I were you, I would try to work on the relationship with them WAY before the wedding so that all of those nervous feelings subside and you are a 100% sure you want them there.
