What annoys me is when people hear that I'm getting married and say some version of the following: 'Oh, don't bother getting married, it ruins everything. Stay single.' WHAT THE F? Who says that to someone who is getting married in a few months? And these are people I know well from work. If I had a dollar for everytime I heard something along those lines, I'd be rich. ARGH! I can't stand people sometimes!

I agree - I always get that from my Aunt (who is presently going through a divorce).
I always hear 'Oh, I'll just have you hang out with some of my friends and they'll all tell you not to get married.'
Now normally I love my Aunt, and I hate the fact that she's going through a divorce, but I hate hearing that I'm going to regret this decision - ugh!

i think that you should start to have fun with it though... Whenever someone says that to you, you SHould make them give you a dollar. tell them that you have a policy that everytime someone says that to you, they have to give you a dollar!!! i bet most of them will elieve you and give you one too!!! Hey, may as well profit off of their ignorance

Someone at works says the reason it took me two yrs to get married to see if someone will change there mind. This is coming from someone that wants to have an affair.

I get that a lot too. So does FH. When his married friends found out we were engaged they told him his life was over and continue to tell him that when we say anything about the wedding

one of my biggest pet peeves is NEGATIVITY... but even worse is when people try to spread their negativity around to those of us who are actually HAPPY!!
i think you should tell them to keep their negative energy to themselves!

That bugs me as well. As a teacher, I meet a lot of parents who are divorced or on their way and they always give me that same speech. Why can't they just let me live through it and decide about marriage for myself.

Yea i get that at work a lot too..also im told im too young to get married...my parents got married at 18/19 and have been married for 40 years!!! Age has nothing to do with it!

all i hear is 'youre too young'... then they say someting like 'if he loves you now, he'll love you in 5 years'...in other words, get married in 5 years..... what would be the differnece?!?!?!!
what does it really matter?
i hate when people say this. ignore them... or defend yourself,.... dont let them get away with it!

I would just look at them and 'politely' say 'I am sorry that you are miserable in your marriage and feel you have to dissaude others but I am happy and content with my life'
