thank you girls - i just need to be reassured that there is such a thing such as a doggie heaven. FMIL bought me the dog heaven book and it made me cry a lot but happy at the same time

I really do believe pups go to heaven! They sure deserve to. The part in 'the Lovely Bones' book where the girl's dog finally meets her in heaven made me cry.

Plus we won't have to pick up their poop in heaven. They probably poop jelly beans

i know did FMIL's pom have degenerative myelopathy? B/c they don't feel it - it made me so sad to watch him but I knew he was happy to walk even w/ a wheelchair

I forget the name of it but I don't think it was that because he definitely felt it. He would SCREAM if someone touched him in the wrong spot. Ugh it was painful to watch. The surgery was thousands of dollars and FIL's didn't have the money. They also couldn't guarantee it would work and he was pretty old to go through all that....FMIL was a messs. FH and FBIL had gotten the pom for her for mother's day more than a decade ago...

It was strange though, this happened within two weeks of FH and I getting our pom puppy, Nutley. We thought FMIL wouldn't want to see Nutley but she actually wanted to see him ALL the time and I think he helped her out in the end...

that's so sad i'm glad that Nutley helped out your FMIL

I didnt want to see my chihuahua for a bit and she kept on wanting to jump on my lap - the thought of having a dog close to me after losing colby broke my heart. but i realized that she needs loving too and ignoring her wasnt going to bring Colby back. So now I just try to cherish all my moments that I can w/ my chi. I dont think I can get another dog for a while though.

I wish I could post the video that I made of Colby

yeah, FMIl looves dogs and you can tell she is so happy when she comes to see Goober and Nutley but swears she will never get another. It is just too hard when they go! After Nutley and Goober go FH says he wouldn't be able to get another and I kind of feel the same way...it would take a looooong time to get over. They go through so much with you!!!

Yes, please snuggle your Chi!! I'm sure she's missing Colby too and I bet she can sense you're sad.

I'm not sure how to post video either...but I remember Colby's pic and he's a handsome boy!

eta: FH will look at Nutley once in a while and go 'oh bubba, you will break my heart one day' Then he looks at Goober and go 'Goober...I don't think you'll ever die.' LOL its a running joke because Goober has eaten lightbulbs and everything imaginable and lived to wreak havoc again.

I don't knw. But the vet said that even if we caught in and they operated, it might not be guaranteed that he'll survive b/c he's older. I just hope that he didnt suffer too much

Some breeds (usually larger ones) are more prone to it. Now that I think about it, I think Marley in 'marley and me' had it??? They were able to untwist it the first time but its more likely to happen again.

I never saw the movie b/c ppl kept on tellin me about it. i dont know if i could watch it now. But yes, you're right - larger dogs are more prone to it. and colby was a 125 lb giant

I am so sorry for your loss. Fh and I lost one of our fur-babies in January and it still effects us. So many hugs to you.

I also wholeheartedly believe in dogs going to heaven. There have been a few times now that FH or I have dreamed about Kramer and he is healthy and happy. I truly believe with all my heart that this is his way of coming to us and reassuring us that he is ok.

As for the stomach twisting, according to my ex, it can be caused by the food sometimes. Have you ever taken dry kibble and added water to it? It expands about 3 times the size. This is what happens in the stomach. A good way to help with this is to add some water to your doggies kibble and let it sit for a little bit. let the expansion happen in the bowl and not in the stomach.

This is not always the case though.

I watched most of it on my ipod to and from work but when it got to the end I had to shut it off because I didn't want to lose it on the train! I watched the end in my bed at home sobbing.
