All along I have been picturing a very casual, very summery vineyard wedding - I wanted people barefoot for gods sake! My men are in nice suits with no ties (maybe) and my BM's in tea length feminine simple dresses (not too fancy) then here I'll be, coming down the aisle in a very lacy, very sparkly, very fancy strapless Maggie Sottero, with a chapel length MANTILLA VEIL!! The whole ensemble is lovely, but I am worried I am going to stick out in a weird way, not in a 'oh, she's the bride and she is SUPPOSED to stand out' kind of way.
This is an outdoor summer affair and I feel like I am dressed for a Manhattan Wedding at St Patricks!
Any thoughts? Am I just stressing because I havn't found anything to stress about yet, and this is big for me.
now I'm thinking I should put the men in ties...

It's not too late to change the formality of the affair. You can put the men in nice ties, or if you are really concerned you can change into a less formal dress for the reception. But, I know I want to keep my dress on ALL NIGHT. I don't think you would look weird. I wanted to put black tie optional or something to that nature on my invite but FH really doesn't want too. I mean think about it, alot of times when you look at weddings the only people who are REALLY dressed up are the bride and groom and the bridal party. EVeryone else just looks as if they are going to church (well, people in my church don't really dress up). SO I think if you want to do it, you can and I don't think it would look bad.

I don't think anyone would think you're too fancy. You're the bride and you're supposed to 'stick' out. Try not to worry about it too much. You feel in love with your dress for a reason!!

I went through the same thing, but I think I'm at peace with my dress decision now. I was going to get a really simple dress with no train for a casual garden wedding. I ended up loving a more formal dress and I was worried I'd 'overpower' the men in their suits (no tuxes) and the bridesmaids in their simple tee length dresses. But I have since decided that it's all in my head -- nobody is going to see me walk down the aisle and think I'm overdressed for my wedding day.
Ps - Our guys are wearing ties, but fun ties from Vineyard Vines - keeping it light and playful, but adding a bit of formality to their outfits.

I wouldn't worry about it-- it is your wedding gown- it is supposed to be fancy. What about changing your veil?
I think Lace can be romantic and casual looking or, it can be dressed up.. It is about your flowers, your hair and your jewelry. Opt for simple clean elements and you will be good.
You love the dress right?

They are a company that makes ties, belts, etc. Here's their site: Vineyard Vines
We are getting each of the groomsman a different patterned tie that has some personal meaning (ie the golf buddy gets the golf tie).

Its so funny since I worry about the opposite thing and I know we discussed dresses when you were looking for something more casual. Now I am worried that my dress isn't formal enough for a Sat. night wedding. I think once I add the cathedral length veil I will feel better. I constantly look at your dress and wish I had tried it on!!!
It really shouldn't matter since I love my dress!!!

christine! You are going to look amazing - i think the veil and your hair and a pair of great heels will make you look stunningly formal! I LOVE your dress, and I regret NOT having tried yours on! Too funny...
I am thinking in the other direction as you - hair down, not alot of jewelry, simple sandals...etc...
Isn't the grass always greener?
