Okay really dumb question..

for those of you taking dance lessons are you going to 'choregraph' your first dance or is it a general learn to dance together and look impressive at your wedding thing? are you taking a specific type of dance lesson?

I would like to sign up because a) it sounds like fun and b) FH and I have not gone out dancing since college and i don't think our first time back on the dance floor should be at our wedding..

We are planning on taking lessons, but I'm not sure about the whole choreographing thing. One of my friends who took lessons did that and it looked great.

we are not going to take formal lessons, but we are going to practice and make it 'ours' with some moves. I told FH I reused to do the 'clutch and sway.'

We will have a choreographed dance, hopefully. I have friends who dance and they will teach me, and than in tern, I will teach my FI.

yeah mine isn't that smooth either - but I actually love how he dances. Some times, when he is really getting his groove on, he busts out the 'one-arm-bandit' and just jiggles his hips with one arm in the air... kind of like I'm a little teapot for grown ups. I guess we should get to lessons STAT!

LOL

Hmmm.. trying to put into words what FH does.. it really reminds me of being in 7th grade and how all the boys danced at Bar Mitzvah's and stuff... The again, I have only really seen him dance- his most hardcore at a Phish show-- bringing those hippie moves into the mix doesn't help-- lots of arm movement.

I still love him though!!

We are taking dance lessons from a company called WeddingDayDance.com ... they are going to coreograph our 1st dance for us.

Re: Okay really dumb question..

We had a choreographed dance (the moves were the International Rumba)...but wound up ditching it and just doing the basic moves of the rumba. We second guessed ourselves...and then the band wound up calling people up in the middle of the song so it all would have been for naught, regardless.

But we had a blast taking lessons!

Re: Okay really dumb question..

Just something to note, we recently saw 2 couples who took lessons and did some choreography.

They looked stiff, anxious, we saw a groom counting, they never once looked in eachother's eyes and barely smiled. (one couple took lessons for over 6 months)

If you are going to do this don't put any major expectations on the result and remember your first dance should be comfortable for both of you.

We have had the opportunity to practice at a few weddings recently and although we don't know formal steps he's really good at leading me in our own style.
