and the recpetionist said that they normally dont do this until I am 6 weeks along and have missed my period for about 2 weeks. But she said that she would get the doctor to see if I would be approved to come in earlier. Is this weird or normal procedure. I never heard of that before.
Unfortunatly that's pretty normal procedure... I happened to get lucky, but I know my SIL did not see a doctor until she was 7-8 weeks along...
it's really to prevent extra worrying - if the levels are too low, you have to go through extra testing. I did and so did Stefanie - do a search on her recent post. if you are far enough along, i think you can avoid this and it really is nerve-wracking - although I'm sure you want the official word already!

Yea I do find it odd, considering how anxious a women is when they get a positive result on the hpt....I had to wait 2 weeks to see my doctor. I have my first appointment today and I'll be 8 weeks tomorrow.
I took 4 HPT since I found out two 2 weeks ago. May sound a little crazy but I guess I was trying to see if I was 'still' pg especially since I haven't had much morning sickness.
I had a similar thing happen and I was shocked and I had tears in my eyes. I took the home tests but I just wanted it confirmed by a dr because it was so hard to believe. My dr's office said that you have to be 8 weeks along unless of course this is a pregnancy you plan on terminating....I just welled up and was like well what do I do in the meantime and the nurse receptionist said continue life as usual. I guess I had expected the dr's office to be happy for me and hoped they would guide me on what I should or shouldn't do...instead I just waited and did a lot of online reading.

They wouldn't see me till 8 weeks.
Thats normal! My doc said, did you take a HPT? Were you trying? Are you late? Then assume you're pregnant and we will see you in 6 weeks.
I remember feeling really upset also the first time that I was pregnant, and they said that. It was awful because you start worrying. But sadly it is normal.

You're not crazy - I've been doing the same thing and I've had the blood test to confirm it.
