The Old Navy sizing chart says (as do most other charts) to just buy in your normal size....

that's a M or L depending on the shirt for me and pants are usually a 10, which converts to a M

I'm 5' 5 1/2' and normally around the 135 weight range

I found Old Navys maternity sizes to be a little off - the best thing is to just try stuff on. And the clothes that fit you in the beginning most likely will not fit you the entire time (at least for me they didn't) so don't go crazy buying clothes too early (I made that mistake)

but can I try it on now even though I'm only showing a tad??

Thats the hard part - Motherhood has foam strap on 'bellies' (of course my son liked to wear them around the store) - you kind of have to guess.... The problem I had with their sizes was the shirts weren't long enough later on and I wore mostly Med, sometimes a Large before I was preggo and I had to wear large maternity early on because everything from there shrunk in the wash and now I have to wear XL maternity.

It is very hard to predict where you will be at least it was for me. I didn't buy anything until I thought I was real close to needing it. Also it depends how you are growing - so the pre-preg size wasn't true for me in all stores and like usual - I find every mfg cuts their maternity clothes differently.

I find Old Navy's sizes to be crazy too. Some shirts I need a small and some I need a medium and sometimes the medium doesn't work. I also find their stuff shrinks and since I am taller - the shirts get shorter. Pants - I don't even bother with them from there because they don't work for me. But the only good thing about Old Navy is the 90 day return policy. So I wouldn't buy much and wear as you can - I know you will feel horrible like you are wearing the same thing over and over but you will be surprised how your body changes and changes quickly. Keep those receipts and tags on. (I just returned a shirt to Old Navy that I bought in early Sept - by the time it fit me - it was too cold).

It took me awhile but eventually you figure out how to buy clothes. I have to tell you the first time I went shopping I was crying - I was so clueless on how to shop and measure and adjust.
