Old Field Club opinions?

Old Field Club opinions?

Hmmmm... the more I look, the more confused I get. I like the Old Field Club in East Setuaket, BUT 1.) I am concerned if the dance floor can really be in the middle of the room with 150 people around it??? and 2.) I am a little weary of the slight musty smell when I went in there. I know it was a random day during the week (and it was raining!) so it may no have been in ship-shape condition. Does anyone have any suggestions or opinions on this?? (Or photos??)

Thanks!!

Illana is getting married at Old Field...and a 2011'er I believe. They'll be able to help you out. I'm sure they have lots of pics :)

Hi! I have no idea about the dance floor because we are having ours in the room with the bar...that's the natural setup and I like it that way.

As for the smell...I honestly have never smelled anything off there. It was established in 1929 so the maybe there is just an older smell about the place? I doubt it though...everything seems pretty new and up to date.

If you have any questions feel free to FM me....I looooooove it there and can't wait to get married there!!

Re: Old Field Club opinions?

I was in the bridal party for a wedding back in August there. The dance floor was near the bar, which I think worked out great b/c it was separated from the tables. It did rain on my friends wedding day, but no musty smell. The only thing that kind of s*cked was the CH was then in this back kind of..you probably know what i'm talking about, and there was no ac, so on a hot rainy day, the temperature in that area was not comfortable. That was it though, everything else was beautiful.

When I looked at the Old Field Club, they said that the dance floor had to be down that end with the bar.

You should look at hamlet willow creek if you like Old Field Club

Ahhh - i didn't even realize that they didn't have AC! I do know where you are talking about in regards to the inside CH in case of rain.

A wedding in August could be pretty uncomfortable if there is no AC at all! They have a couple fans in the main ballroom.... but I will definintely have to investigate that! Thanks for the heads up.

As for the dance floor... I've always just preferred it surrounded by the tables so that everyone feels like they are part of the party. The guy there told me it could be arranged in such a way, but i wasn't so sure.

Thanks!! Does anyone have pictures of the place set up for a wedding?

I'm having the room set up the traditional way, with the dance floor by the bar. I've been to OFC several times and I didn't notice a musty smell during any of my meetings. It's such a gorgeous hall!! Maybe go back to visit when they are setting up for a wedding. That's what FH and I did and I loved seeing the room set up for a wedding!! I also have some pics in my album (some are from the OFC website, and some are others I took myself or gathered from LIW).

The previous poster mentioned the no AC. I believe they meant that the back cocktail hour room (one of the CH sections) doesn't have AC, because it's right on the water with screens. But I believe the rest of the hall has AC. FH and I booked in the summer and found the temperature at OFC to be very comfortable. If you look in my album you will see the room that has the screens (it has green covering with screens).

we were almost about to book the old field club, but my parents nixed it because it was too far from our church. never noticed a musty smell (was there 3x) and we also would have had the dance floor by the bar.

yea its the room with the green screens that had no AC when I was there for a wedding. the ballroom was perfectly fine temperature wise for the event, but i have to be honest and say it was uncomfortable for the CH, i think it was b/c of the layout, there weren't enough seats, seriously maybe 20, so almost everyone was standing. its a small area, so maybe if they can move around some stuff, i think it would be better since it wouldn't be as cramped....hope that makes sense.

Did they have a tent over a portion of the outdoor deck? Because that would have allowed for some more seating, even if it was raining out.

Re: Old Field Club opinions?

I have a ton of pictures if you want them. Also, I wouldn't worry about the dance floor if you really like the space. Originally I was dead set on having a reception hall with a dance floor in the middle, but I think it will work out well at OFC. I'm having 150 too and they said it would work in the middle, but I just think it would be easier and a little more comfortable for all the guests if you keep the dance floor at the front.

Also - they supply a tent for the deck if it rains, so I wouldn't worry too much about no AC in the back room. People will be spread out enough and I don't know that anyone would hang out in the back room except to get food - there are no tables in the area.

They don't automatically supply a tent...they have a company that they rent from so they have easy access to one if you want it, although you will have to pay extra for it...but you can tell them up to like a week in advance if you want it or not. Honestly, I am thinking about getting it even if its going to be sunny, since we're getting married mid-July and its gonna be warmmm

Re: Old Field Club opinions?

When we went in for our tasting two weeks ago, Matt assured us that as long as you have 130 people they will provide the tent if it is raining. Not sure if they would do the same for a sunny day, but that's not a bad idea. I'm sure it would help cool things down on a hot night!

Yeah my mom was saying that we should just get the tent regardless of the weather because some people may not want to be in the direct sunlight and would prefer to be in the shade.

Just wanted to let you girls know they did NOT supply a tent for the wedding. This is why is was so cramped, I will definitely get it b/c that would have been so much better.

Probably why I was told we'd have to pay since we're looking to have around 110.
