Old, New, Nothing, Blue - Long Island Weddings
For the girls with hankees you can pin it to the inside of your dress. I pinned it to one of the layers of crinolin (sp?) it stayed the whole time.

Old- my grandma is gonna give me something
new- my dress
borrowed- a pin that belonged to my mom's mom who passed away. My sister used it last year at her wedding, we 'lent' it to my cousin for her wedding in Oct., and then she is going to 'lend' it to me for my wedding.
blue- my shoes
and a silver sixpence in your shoe! (it's part of the poem).. the tradition says that if you put a real silver coin (like a dime from a long time ago when it was actually made of silver) in your shoe on your wedding day that you will never be without money lol
In my group of friends we have an old irish sixpence (bought on ebay) that each.one of the 5 of us have had in their wedding shoe! I bought it for the first bride in 2009 and each girl has used it, now I'm the last of the 5. The sixpence will then retire. :)

Old, New, Nothing, Blue | Page 2 - Long Island Weddings
I bought the one we have on eBay a few years back. We use clear packing tape and tape it down where the arch is, all the other girls said they didn't even feel it. I guess I'll find out soon.

Since you bought it to your friend it belongs to her. You should 'borrow' that for your wedding day!

Yeah, but I don't think it counts. All of us have used it, it was understood we would all use it. Not really borrowing per say.

Old, New, Nothing, Blue - Long Island Weddings
My OLD was a blue bird that my Grandmother who passed away had put in a bird cage that she had crocheted. I stuck the bird in my bouquet. My NEW was my dress, veil, jewelry, accessories, etc.
My BORROWED was a handkerchief from my Mother from Ireland. She gave it to me as I was getting ready. My MOH tried to give it to me as I was about to go down the aisle... but I didn't feel I needed it with me as I actually walked down the aisle haha. My borrowed was with me by principle.

My BLUE was my blue & white gingham (Wizard of Oz) garter & my 'I do' stickers on the bottom of my shoes.
And I had a lucky sixpence in my left shoe (my husband gave it to me and it's my Father's birth year!)

My husband had bought me a sixpence (in my Father's birth year) on eBay! Your Father is supposed to tape it into the inside of your left shoe on your way to the church. I had him tape it ahead of time because really, there would have been no time to figure out the logistics on our way to the church. Either way, I had him tape it in for me. We double-sided taped it to the inner side of my shoe, I didn't feel a thing all day & night!
