OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!

You may remember my post a few weeks ago about the ANNOYING people who live below me and how they have been banging on the ceiling whenever we play music (and TRUST ME- its SOOOOOO NOT loud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Anyway, they did it again last night and FI went down there and had a big talk w/ them (at least FI hads the balls to do that unlike the wimp who keeps BANGING)

Well they agreed that 6pm WAS NOT an unheard of time to play music and made an arrangement that anything past 9pm would be considered unreasonable.

Well today Im off and Im playing music (unafraid bc I figured they werent even home) and that @sshole comes to my front door banging and yelling thru it to turn ot down. Im so fumming!!!!!! FI is at work and i feel like im stranded in here bc Im actually afraid to leave my apt bc he is gonna follow me or something

I can't believe they are hassling you about this! Especially after they came to an agreement when FH spoke to them!!!

That's horrible!!! If you want to leave and you're afraid, call your FH on your cell phone and talk to him while you leave your apt. so this 'person' won't have the cojones to say something to you. I'm sorry you have to go through this. Some people are just so a$$holes.

Oh, I didn't take it like that..so don't worry.

I understand your frustration completely! Is there a board you can go to for assistance.

You can file a complaint against them. There are laws (even though not a landlord existing) set up to protect those living in a 'shared' environment such as a co-op.

It's something along the lines of - you can play music and such between the hours of 8am - 9pm as being acceptable...

At least in NYC...don't know about LI.

Same reason laws for Construction are in place....

Well ther eis a rule book and it does say that music CAN be played bet. those hours. The problem is, there is also a rule about having 80% of your floors covered and we had the wood floors done and still dont have 80% covered bc our DR set just came on Tues and we were waiting for it to be delivered so we can match an area rug to it. I dont want to start w. the board bc they have the right to come up here and hear the volume of the music and then they will see that my floors arent 80% covered and....... well you get the point.

You own your co-op you are allowed to play your music loud at this time of day.

Let him call the police or something...they can't legally tell you to shut it off or lower it at this time.

i have a different opinion

when i was in college, my neighbors would play music constantly. and it wasn't that loud. but all that came through the walls was the thumping of the bass and some sounds. it made me crazy!!!

i went and talked with them and realized that they weren't playing it loud--but the way it was coming through the walls was horrible.

your neighbors have a right to privacy too--and if you're not in compliance with the 80% rule, you may have a problem. go down to their place and see how it sounds--you may realize why they're so angry.

now, they're not right for banging, that's immature, but they do have a right to silence. and if you keep irritating them, who knows what they might start to do to irritate you.

did you remind him of the agreement they made about anything after 9 pm?? I'm so sorry you have to go through that!

ETA: the suggestion above is a good idea to go downstairs and see what it sounds like (but don't go alone - go with FH).

Also, In college my neighbor had the people downstairs complaining about the noise so he bought a small throw rug and put the stereo on that instead of the wood floor and it muffled the sound a bit. No idea if this will help but it worked for him.

i think that checking out how loud iti s for them is a great idea.... also, have them (once your floors are covered) come up and listen to how loud (or not loud) you have the volume. They might be more understanding if they realize you aren't really blasting it! Good luck!

They dont have a right to SILENCE. Thats absurd!!! There is no base on a computer anyway so I cant imagine that the sound is loud. Also, we DO have carpet in the room we are playing in and WILL have the 80% coverage now that our DR set is in. The music is coming from the computer in the office room which has a plush carpet in it. The only room not carpeted is the Dining Room
