a-they are idiots for doing it

b-what kind of teacher just leaves a class totally unattended? there's leaving the room for a few minutes and then there's leaving the room for an assembly!

Can I just say that if I ever left my students alone without proper supervision, I could be fired on the spot? Why are they attributing more fault to the children than to the teacher? There is no mention of that.

You bring up a good point, I would like to think it was a horrible mistake made by that teacher. Possibly they thought someone was covering the class?

At any rate, the entire thing is just horribly disturbing.

You know when I read this article I was just stunned. How can this happen? Yes, of course those students should have been supervised but as a teacher myself I know that sometimes things happen. They were young but not babies - these were 11, 12 and 13 year olds. I was babysitting other peoples children at those ages! While it was the fault of the teacher for not being there I still don't understand how these kids could actually have sexual intercourse in front of OTHER students and have no one report it until the NEXT DAY!!

I work in a rough district. I had my 8th grade girls class yesterday when I read the article and I asked them about this situation. Without skipping a beat ALL of them made a gross face and said 'EWWW!' When I asked them what they would do they all said they would leave, run out, some said throw up... These are 8th graders! I wouldn't even ask my beautiful 5th graders - they would look at me like I'm crazy! When I ask them in chorus to stand up straight and stick their chest out they giggle. I think I said the word Vagina once and they all turned beat red and started laughing hysterically. NONE of those kids would have sex in front of anyone! I know that for sure. Even the roughest kids of the bunch wouldn't even THINK of doing that.

What possessed these students to do this? What did they see or experience that made them think this was a good idea? There is no way that they decided to have sex in front of their classmates all on their own. I just don't see it happening. Then again I have never lived in north Louisiana. Who knows... I just know that it's scary, disgusting and totally depressing....
