OMG more news about VA shooting!!

stole this from 07 board although i did just see it on nbc

a special report says that NBC studios in NY receives a package today....and it appears to be from the shooter from the VA Tech shootings. looks like the 2 hrs span between the first part of the shootings to the 2nd part....he went and mailed out this box.

the box contends a lengthy rambly manifesto, as well as photos (but the photos are not aired yet or what the pics are)

i know i saw that.. but again the media just tells you enough to make you watch later.. I HATE THEM!

what i dont get is how they explain him as 'mentally disturbed' and 'mentally ill' and still they did not take any precausions when treating him or letting him back into the school and dorms...

Even my psych professor said that they could have done more, but since he was not a minor they did not have to tell his parents out of confidential purposes and also because he has the right to refuse treatment!!!

But she also said she would have had the school evalute him and decide to make him take a leave of absence. Maybe that would have helped him get treatment or not shoot up a school

I still dont understand how they did not have better communication regarding the 2 hours in between the shootings!!!! And I believe people have the rigth to be pissed about that!!

Cho was described as 'mentally ill and in need of hospitalization, and presents an imminent danger to self or others as a result of mental illness, or is so seriously mentally ill as to be substantially unable to care for self, and is incapable of volunteering or unwilling to volunteer for treatment'

as far as my knowledge of psychiatry, at least in NY, a person who is a danger to himself or others would NOT be released from an institution, whether he agreed or not., ESPECIALLY in a case where the person is 'incapable of volunteering treatment' as far as im concerned, this is negligence on the part of the psychiatrists who evaluated him.

yup that is exactly what my professor was telling us...especially since she deals with people like this all day- she is a forensic pyshologist and works at Ritgers Island Prison and comes across people like this kid. But she said that those statements might have been just made now because she said yes if a person is considered mentally ill and a danger to themselves or society they cannot refuse treatment but she thinks that those who treated him or consuled him didnt state it until later on after he got out because they should have kept him if this is teh way they felt!!!

Its crazy and I believe he should have been hospitalized and not allowed to leave!
