I remember spending hundreds every aug. my first few years teaching. We get $250 every year for supplies so now I just make do with that. Plus I have accumulated so much crap in 6 years I have enought to last me.

It is fun getting all new stuff every year

I actually just got home from buying my stuff and it came out to $29.00! I got lots of posters and borders....the school gives us everything else.

My sis teaches at a REALLY bad off city school, and last year she spent over $1000 on her kids without getting any reimbursement! But those poor kids need it....hopefully your investment will pay off with your kids as well!

I am at only about 50 so far(Thank gosh). I have accumulated so much over the years. I do have to go buy more border from AC Moore though (40%coupon!) I have also been buying things on sale 12c crayons from walmart, 50c markers from target 1c folders from staples ect.

were there lots of lines at WEANS?

i want to say i spend close to that each year also! uhhhhhh and the city only reinburses $250...i wouldnt have to spend that much if i was teaching the same grade bc of stuff i accumulated but im teaching 2nd grade (instead of 5th grade) so i cant use any of that stuff

you're not alone and it stinks, people don't realize how much money teachers spend out of their own pocket, and time out of the classroom too. they think its such an easy job, errrr.

It is my first year and I just left a job that I was working at part time for the last 6 years...as a present they gave me $225 to Carol's school supplies. I got it after I spent my $250 at the educational warehouse...I spent $160 of the gift then returned half the stuff and now I am waiting till I get into my classroom to spend the rest on stuff that I really really need

I don't know where this money is coming from I swear!!!

I hear ya...Kind of frustrating that we have to spend our own hard earned cash but I do it because I love the way my room looks...I try to make my room the classroom I would want to learn in....Atleast you're not alone!

i too have spent a ton. This is my first year teaching general ed third grade. These kids can actually read books so i had to go out and buy new chapter books. I found a book fair when I was on vacation and spent $80 just on books. NOt to mention that this year I asked for amazon.com gift certificates for my bday and i used all of them on school stuff. I am a loser!

When I worked in NYC i swear half my salary went back into stuff for my room. This included snacks so my kids didn't go hungry
