NEW YORK POST
WEDDING GOWNS SAVED FROM FIRE
The heartsick owner of a burned-to-the-ground Brooklyn bridal salon yesterday braved the smoldering remains to rescue hundreds of dresses for her beloved customers.
Alice Sena, 59, ignored fire marshals trying to keep her out of Sposabella Couture, on Fifth Avenue in Bay Ridge, after flames gutted the boutique in the early-morning hours.
'They said, 'You have to leave the stuff.' I said, 'No. I need to get the dresses,' a shaken Sena told The Post.
'I ran up the stairs. They kept trying to stop me. We grabbed them all and got them out. I saved the dresses for the brides. I saved them for the girls.'
Sena, whose 25 years in the business put four kids through college, sobbed as what fire officials suspect was an electrical blaze consumed her shop at about 2 a.m.
'She was more heartbroken about her clients than herself,' said her son, James, 38. 'She's trying to keep it together [for] her brides.'
The dresses will be professionally cleaned, said Sena, who will do fittings out of her home for now.
Brooklynite Lisa Santana, 38, stopped by the shop yesterday to collect her sister's bridal gown for a Sept. 25 wedding. 'Alice grabbed, like, 200 dresses,' she said.
**I feel awful for this poor woman she lost her whole shop and she is one dedicated business owner that she ran back in to save the girls dresses!!! Im sooo happy she was able to save them all!! So sweet that all she cared about was her clients and their dresses <3 Im glad her and her employees are all safe.
