That's terrible! I can't imagine why you would actively seek out that kind of information (and go to such trouble to get it!)
I do have a confession, though...I accidentally came upon a list of who bought what on my Williams-Sonoma registry. I was updating my registry, and they have this thing called, 'Thank You Note Manager.' I thought it was some type of tool you can use to track who you sent TY notes to, and I clicked on it to see if it's user friendly or not. Well, turns out it tells you exactly who bought what!!!! I was so irritated! I only saw a couple of names, but I felt terrible about it! They should at least WARN you that it tells you who bought what...Maybe I'm an idiot, but I had no idea that the 'Thank You Note Manager' had the names and addresses of all the people that bought stuff! eeeek! I still feel guilty!

Re: OMG WAIT-I hope none of you girls did this...
Honestly, I have to say that I did this only once. Inititally, I didn't want to, but I HAD to. The reason being is that we had about $3,000 worth of merchandise disappear from our registry at one time, from ONE entity after my shower had been long over but the wedding had been too far away for the merchandise to have been purchased as a wedding gift. Very suspicious as neither one of us work in places that would have an office collection of over $3K. Nor do we have rich relatives.
It turned out that someone contacted MACY's over the PHONE with a corporate name, and had these items removed from the registry under the guise that they purchased them elsewhere for a better price and did not want us to receive doubles. We do not know who it was - only that they used a corporate name that we were both familar with. You would think that this would be an online issue, but registry items cant be removed online unless they are purchased or unless the registrants adjust the registries themselves.
Needless to say, we never received the gifts and we can only speculate as to who it may have been based on the info that MACY's gave us. We told them that they what they considered to be a courtesy to their customers was bordering on an invasion of privacy. We noted our account to indicate that nothing was to be removed from our registry unless PURCHASED at the store or online. In MACY's defense, I am convinced an inexperienced salesperson led the initial transaction and a well-versed salesperson would have seen the red flag. They were rather aplogetic and every other interaction I had with MACY's had been easy and wonderful.
It was a mailicious and disturbed thing to do and at this point we do not care. However, we had to reinstate all of the things purchased that day.
My point in writing all of this is that SOMETIMES, the service of identifying your gift givers can help. In our case, it left us stupified.

Goldi-your reason was valid.
Her reason was she just wanted to see who bought her things-and she complained to her FI on the fone 'Ohhh come on,they can spend more $$$ on that'.

I actually did this, but on accident. About 2 weeks after our engagement party last year I was going to add some items to my Macy's registry and saw that all 10 wine glasses were now saying 'Needed-0' So I called Macys to see if this was an error. They said no, someone bought them and then they asked if I wanted to know who bought them! I was curious so I said yes, and she told me. I guess if you order online or pay by credit card, they have the info on the order.
