On the subject of Idenity theft: Charge Card Receipts...

Just thinking..

I seem to REALLY be ticking off a LOT of folks lately with my credit card purchases. Why are some places still printing out the whole credit card number on receipts?

I look at my bill (restaurant, purchases, etc) and if I see my # I just scratch it out. I may leave the last four digits but that’s about it. I got one guy at a gas station all flustered “you can’t do that, I need it” Im thinking NO you don’t.

Am I right?

I HATE HATE HATE my credit card number appearing on things. Jim doesn’t even look to see if it’s there, me… I scan EVERY piece of paper. I know Jim thinks I’m anal about it, but isn’t it kinda risky giving out that info?

Or is it just me?

I do the same thing! Identity theft has been in the spotlight lately and it is becoming more and more common. There is no need for people to have my whole number if they have already swiped my card.

I shred everything. It annoys me that rest.'s and other stores leave the whole number on the reciept. However, I watch my accounts like a hawk and get copies of my credit report periodically.

Yah but even though you do that, when they print the reports for the machine it has all the numbers on it.

True..they can print it anyway.. but I hate when I went to buy gas and the attendant was angry that I scratched out my numbers on both copies.

'You can't do that' pfft. Yes, I can.

I went to a store in roosevelt field and they printed my numbers.. when I stared at the paper the lady asked if anything was wrong, I said 'yes, you have my numbers printed and you shouldn't' the manager behind her heard me and says 'She's right' but not like they change it.

Heck I went to a nice hotel and they did the same thing!

It annoys the heck out of me.

I shred everything because I can't stand retail ppl knowing anything! They are on a need to know basis and they don't need to know!!

But by the time you get home isn't it too late?

When you get your receipt to sign at the store have you noticed your full card number is on BOTH copies?

Shredding at home doesn't make me feel better about the striving college kid who may get a little anxious one day.
