On the subject of inviting people from work....
Hi.Are you obligated to invite your boss? I actually have 3? I am not close with them. We get along great in the work enviroment, but do not socialize outside of the job unless it is work related.
I know weddings can get political, but what your thoughts?
Also, I doubt I will be inviting any from work, I have great realtionships with everyone, but it does not spill over into my personal life.

Re: On the subject of inviting people from work....
I am having the exact same dilemma. But I work in a very small office, only 10 people here. I am definately inviting my boss, and 2 co-workers that I am closer with, but I just don't know about the others, and dates! I don't really socialize with them outside of work, but the office is so small, and they know how hard I've been working on this wedding, that I'm afraid of being rude.Confused!

Re: On the subject of inviting people from work....
I invited both of my bosses - and etiquette I BELIVE would agree. I also invited several work people who I do not socialize with outside of work - bit I am with them more than I am with my Fi - or at least it seems. Ultimately, it is up to you - and your personal situation - also keeping in mind costs and guarantees. Hope this helps.

Invite people you are close with. Your bosses will not be offended if they don't get invited. Especially if you don't invite anyone from work.

What about secretaries? I have a secretary that I share with another person. Do you think etiquette requires that I invite her and her husband?

Re: On the subject of inviting people from work....
I work in a very small office, and only have 5 coworkers. I am inviting them all. Because of our work environment, we work as a team, and have become pretty close, and they all have been very supportive of my engagement and my wedding plans. They even bought me engagment gifts
From the way it sounds, this is not the type of relationship you have at your office. Whereas you're friendly, you don't get personal at all. Therefore, I don't see it necessary to invite them.
As long as you're not sharing ideas and plans with them everyday, showing pictures, etc. . . they should not be offended at all. I would not be.
My FH is not inviting any of his coworkers, and not even his boss.
Hope this helps

Re: On the subject of inviting people from work....
Lizlen, you have hit it right on the nose.We are friendly but that is the extent of it.
Mind you if I had a bigger budget I would invite a couple of these people, but you know how that goes.
Thanks for your advice.

Re: On the subject of inviting people from work....
I have been stressing about this so much! I have 4 bosses and if I invite one I have to invite all. There are about 8 girls that I hang out with a lot here and occasionally after work. Then you have to include guests if you are including guests for everyone else and besides most of them are married! Thats 24 people
My FH and I just change the subject when it comes up but sooner or later we will have to make a decision.

Re: On the subject of inviting people from work....
Here's my thing....A lot of my coworkers don't have significant others. The ones that do are serious with them, so I'd invite them with guests (or their wives). For the ones that aren't seriously involved with someone (including my immediate boss) do I invite and guest??

Re: On the subject of inviting people from work....
I am not inviting anyone that I work with. Although I am friendly with a bunch of people, I do not socialize with them outside of the work.Another issue is that my reception room can only hold 200 people and I am already over it with family and friends. There's just no way.

I invited both of my bosses and they were probably the best guests that I had I my wedding. No regrets.

Re: On the subject of inviting people from work....
how about this...my fmil thinks we should invite both of HER bosses and her bosses children (including their guests because they are adults)!! i don't even know these people!sorry, just had to vent!
as far as inviting people from work, i agree that your bosses should not be offended if they are not invited, especially if no one else from work is invited. if you do decide to invite other people from work, you may want to consider inviting the bosses too.

Re: On the subject of inviting people from work....
I work in a large office & invited everyone w/ guests, only three people did not attend out of 48.They have shared my wedding plans as well as my relationship w/ hubby from the begining. I socialize with some of them outside the office. We also invited my hubby's employees & a few customers. I'm glad we did they all had a great time.

Re: On the subject of inviting people from work....
I work in a small office. I have three coworkers who are invited and both of my bosses. My problem is that we have about 12 drivers and am only close to a few. They all know about the wedding and about my FH. The problem is that if I only invite a few, the ones not invited will know. I don't want to be rude or hurt anyone's feelings. So I am either inviting some or none at all. I have time to decide, though.

Re: On the subject of inviting people from work....
We only invited a select few people from our jobs - those that we bacame personal friends with and socialized with outside of the office. I would feel obligated toward anyone from work...it's not necessary.

Re: On the subject of inviting people from work....
I have a few people that I am inviting from work. I have been tossing with the and guest question as well because one girl is just starting her divorce. So I have decided I will invite my bosses, some co-workers and for those with wives/husbands or very significant others...all others will not be invited with guest! We need to keep the numbers down somehow.Welcome New Vendors
