Salespeople irk me too!! when i worked in the mall i was always told to be polite to customers, don't carry on personal conversations with co workers in front of them, help and greet people, always thank them. Not these days... is it because the managers are getting younger and don't give a c r a p?? what is it??? salesclerks are sooo rude... if you hate your job that much, QUIT!!!
also, is it just NY? people out of state are so much nicer!!!

I personally think it's a combination of, rude, hate heir job, and not manners. If you saw those same people on the street they act the same way. We were in a deli once and the guy said, 'WHAT'
W T F.....I came here for food, not lip.
I hate when you go to dinner and it's ruined by poor service, even the simplest things are forgotten.
and don't get me started on people I hold the door for who can't even say THANK YOU!
I have to say...a lot of it is NY...since I moved to CA I can't believe the difference in customer service...
even whe I called Geico (I thought Woodbury) I was shocked that these people were from NY...and asked them...turns out that they were a few miles away
in the grocery store...they alwasy ask me if I found everything I needed...they are always smiling...my grocery are bagged and they offer to help me out to my car...this is at every store...

well, when I was 16 I worked at wendy's and was not aloud to act in such a way. we would be repremanded, or fired for being rude to a customer. nowdays it happens all the time and no one does anything. i have started to complain big time when this happens. i am not a piece of shi* to be stepped on. I pay there salary and the least they can do is be polite.

I think it's NY also. I know I am more pleasent when I don't have to go through Penn Station every day. I feel beaten down sometimes and it's frustrating to have to fight your way to a thankless and aggravating job. It's sometimes hard not to take it out on people but this is why I dont work in a service industry.
Yet, another reason to not live here

Rudeness is definitely all around. I was in a pizza parlor recently and saw a kid (about 9 years old) come up and say 'Yo, lemme get a slice to go' I wanted to slap this child's hand and tell him to get some manners. My mom was with me and she sai the kid probably learned from his parents.
