on the topic of the waaay off topic :)

i've been on the pill for 10 years and want to get off it..I've already spoken to my dr. and he told my to finish my current cycle and stop..which is actually this week.
the thing is, we are not ready to get pregnant right now or anytime soon. ... I am so worried about condoms not working and me being so fertile from being on the pill for so long..

am i worrying for nothing? Its just been so long since we've used condoms that i'm scared of them not working!

please give me some advice~!
Thank you!!

DH and I have used condoms for 4 years now. we average 3 times a week, but we did have that one morning 2 years ago, it was a quickie that turned into chaos. the whole thing broke, I never thought it could happen, but it did. I actually chart when I am fertile and don't let him finish 'around' me. I feel safe doing it that way

Condoms really do work most of the time, they really do. Just don't buy off-brands and don't use ones that are old. As added protection, there's a spermicide called Ortho Gynol II that you don't need to use with a diaphragm. The condom and spermicide used together are really effective.

I'll say it again: I miss the sponge!!

I recently did the same thing...got off the pill. I tell ya, I feel a lot better! I don't know about you, but I was experiencing terrible headaches and migraines...so far, so good. I'm off about 2 1/2 months now.

I've been charting - so that makes me feel more comfortable...especially when you read how difficult - or rather, how many factors have to be lined up at once, in order to get pregnant - that kind of puts your mind at ease.

ETA: THIS has been an invaluable source of information for me...someone on here recommended it.

If anyone's interested, I just went on www.canadapharmacy.com and ordered the Today Sponge. The Today Sponge is expected back on the U.S. market next March or so, but by that time, I'll be trying to get preggo. The Sponge I trust even more than the spermicide/condom combination, as effective as it is.

The body is a remarkable thing. It will readjust. Your periods will probably be heavier now, and PMS might be more fun! Tell hubby to watch out.

I haven't noticed a difference yet. Then again, it's only been 2 cycles. Scratch that, the difference now is that I don't have the bad migraines, I'm not as tired and I feel more like myself.

No, it seems to be a common complaint with pill users - at least the ones I've spoken to.

I added this link above - but wanted to make sure you saw it...if you're interested...

I've been on the pill for 6 years and I haven't had any problems. Each pill has different levels of hormones too so that may have been the contributing factor to your migraines. Try to stay off the generic stuff, my doc said it doesn't work as well, something about the glue that holds the pill together and it doesn't work as effectively.

Definitely - each pill is different - as is each woman. Everyone experiences something differently. Like Ortho Tri Cyclen - the pimple-cure-pill. All it did was give me cyst-like zits that took 1-2 years to get rid of...even AFTER I got off that pill.

Over the course of 9 years, I tried about 7 different pills. Each had a different effect on me...after a while, being on it so long, you forget what *you're* like. It was nice to come off.

Tried all the pills and they made me act like Sybil! The headaches, mood swings and weight gain were enough to make me not take them..DH was ready to divorce me from the mood swings..there are other methods that work great...I'm proof.

You know what? I think I'm thankful I was one to never really have taken them. I tried them twice in my life, and never for more than 4 months.

I've been on 3 different kinds. The first one was my favorite (was on it for 4 years), but for certain reasons my doc switched me to another one that was HORRIBLE. Needless to say I was off that one rather quickly and given the one I'm currently on. After hearing some of these horror stories, I'm glad I haven't had any of these problems. So far so good
