My dad says to 'leave it alone' until you have money to do something - right after moving in.
This place has yucky wallpaper and I LOVE hardwood floors - which I would want to take up the carpet (in decent condition actually) and treat the floors....
the house has beautiful crown moldings with this gray wallpaper (yuck sound effect here). I want to paint the moldings white and the walls a taupe or a cream color -
are these reasonable / non expensive updates to do before moving in?

I would DEFINITELY do the floors before moving in... a heII of a lot easier to do before you get furniture in there!!

We are doing similar things before we move in. The worst part is that until we are ready to move in, FH and I both still have apartments, plus the mortgage.

i agree with the others, do the floors first, it's not overly expensive and you don't want to do it after you move in.

Can you do the floors yuorself? There was a girl online here who refinished her hardwood floors herself and posted pics, they came out great. Price out renting the machines you would need and the other supplies. You can take the wallpaper down yourself. It's a PAIN in the a$$ though. We did our bedroom a few months ago and it took TWO DAYS to get the paper down. It's messy too.
I know I would want to do stuff right away...maybe stick to small things - like you could do the wallpaper but keep the rug since its in good shape. Wait a few months until you have money and they do the floors.

That was me - it was totally do-able but a lot of work.
I also removed the wallpaper in our kitchen, and it was a lot easier than I expected.
