On wedding gifts.. OR 'My CLASSY fmil strikes again!'

My stupid MIL.....

In the midst of FH telling her off for what she did, she asked hm how much $$ we're giving for his cousn's wedding..and he answered her w/ o thinking about it. I wish he hadn't! the reason she asked? She wants to give more than we do!

That's SO annoying.

Just for that...(he told her $300), I think we should give $400..LOL

I understand your fustration
but dont let her get to you...give what you can afford to give...my FMIL did this to me for her own daughters wedding. She wanted to give 1/2 of what we gave because she is only one person....I thought this was horrible because she was the mother of the bride and didnt give her daughter a dime towards the wedding....But if I get all crazy everytime she does something stupid I would have to comitt myself to a padded cell.

My FMIL just makes me crazy, though.

If not for wanting to give more than us, I can't see her giving NEARLY that amount. They came to my sister's wedding as a couple and only gave $125. And the same nephew who is getting married had a party for graduating law school and they gave him a $10 statue. So it just bothersme that they're being fake and trying to show us up, because they know we would give more...and now I'm sure they're going to tell FSIL, and GIVE her $$ to give more than us, just to make herself look better. I'll see what we can afford at the time. We had Decided $300-400 since it's his couisn but it depends b/c we have limited financnaes and we will have to travel to MD for the wedding!
