I am the proud mother of an 8 month old black pug - Ceci. FH and I love her.
The opportunity has come up for us to adopt a 2 year old female pug. She was abandoned for about 3 weeks and scratched her eye so now one eye is squinty and looks smaller than the other, but she can still see. I really feel for her and want to adopt her. FH and I both work 9 to 5 hours, but he goes home every day for lunch to take care of Ceci because his office is right across the street from our place.
FH and I travel a lot, but we have a friend with 3 dogs who is VERY willing and able to take both of our pugs when we go away. She always watches Ceci and says one more dog won't make a difference. She loves animals.
Do you think it would really be a lot more work to have 2 dogs? I'm thinking it would actually be a great thing for Ceci, and that she'd stay healthy and happy with a buddy around. She's always very friendly with other dogs, so I don't see that being a problem. What do you think?

Re: One dog or two?
We have been struggling with whether or not to get a second dog. I think the main thing holding us back is that we think it would be too much to ask someone to take care of both dogs when we go away. Since you have someone who is willing to take care of 2 dogs for you, I would say go for it. I don't think it would be much more work. When we take care of our friends' dog for the weekend, it's really not that much more work. And I think the dogs love the companionship of another dog. Good luck!

Definitely get the second dog, it will keep your other dog more active and company during the day. We usually have at least 2 dogs and my older dog (turned 15 in Jan) has been running around like a puppy since we got Maggie. She keeps him on his toes and active, before her he slept all day. Even the vet said 'he's like a new dog'. He wants to play w/the rope and runs around now.

If you have the time to deal with 2 dogs go for it. I wish I could have another. But me and my fh are never home and rocky is used to that. And how will the new dog react to the younger pup. Or visa-versa

Re: One dog or two?
I went thorough this struggle 2 months ago when I was looking for a 2nd dog for our rottie. We ended up with a Pug/beagle mix (a puggle) and our only issue with him is his accidents (at 10 months old, I need to take him out every 2 1/2 hrs AND control his water intake)
ETA: sorry I did not answer your question. It's really not that much more work. The vet bills doubled, it's buying food a tad more frequently, and a lot of effort to train him. That's it. And a little less space in the bed....both dogs sleep with us!!! They play together, wrestle, everything. Took about 3 weeks for our Rottie to fully accept him.
