I just ordered my invites and it only comes with one envelope. Do you need that extra envelope? Is it necessary?
Just so you know-my wedding is New Years Eve and we got silver square invites/black writing. It is not formal, but more modern.
What is everyone doing?

Re: One ENvelope or Two
We did one envelope....and we've gotten many compliments on the invites so I don't think anybody cared. IMO two are wasteful and bad for the environment!

Re: One ENvelope or Two
I think as people are doing more odd-shape invitations the 2nd envelope is being used less-and-less. Pretty much all off-size invitations do not come with an inner envelope- mine didn't, I had Duchess size, and my friend's didn't either.
Honestly- people throw them out anyway- so it just contributes to cost IMO

My invitation came with only one envelope. I don't thunk anyone noticed the inner envelope missing.

Re: One ENvelope or Two
In all honesty you only need one.
I used two because I am inviting alot of philistines who will put 20 people on the response card, so in my case an inner was VERY necessary.
I wish I did not have to use it because it cost an extra .23 .

Re: One ENvelope or Two
Our is coming with 2 envelopes, but I had heard that a lot of people are doing only 1 envelope. Ours just happened to come that way, but we were going to use only 1 if it came that way. If you have to pay extra for it it is a waste of money.

Re: One ENvelope or Two
From what I have read, the inner envelope became custonary because the outer envelope got all dirty when it was being mailed and delivered (i can only imagine hold long ago the custon started). These days, it isn't necessary though because we're sooo advanced!
PS. I used two for mine because I didn't even think of only using one - how dumb am I?

just a question... if you have only one envelope where do you write ' and guest' how does this work if only select people are receiving guestS?

Re: One ENvelope or Two
I would assume you write Mr. Smith and Guest on the one envelope

Re: One ENvelope or Two
I used two also, and my inner envelopes were free with my invites, I just had to pay for the 25 extra that I wanted in case of mistakes, and even that wasn't too much.
