One event at a time....does it even matter?

One event at a time....does it even matter?

Greetings fellow wedding planners, newlyweds and past brides :)

I've just begun the hall search for my '09 wedding and am trying to narrow down my list, but many of the halls I'm considering hold up to 2 or 3 weddings at a time.

I don't know whether or not to be concerned about this.

How do you all feel? Have any of you past brides had any complications with your hall because of this...as far as sharing the space for pictures, noise, etc?

Thanks in advance

Honestly it depends on the facility. Some are arranged so that if there is more than one party the brides are kept completely separate & it does not matter. Other places you may run into another bride due to shared bathroom space, etc. I say if you have a place that you like, make them walk you around & show you how they will keep you separate from another bride.

depends on the facility...it didn't matter to us, it just wound up being that ours only had one wedding.

We got lucky and happened to be the only wedding...but there was a surprise birthday party in the 'After Deck' room...you only knew it was there if you were out in the 'lobby' area....as i was when waiting to be introduced to the reception. they were in after us and out before us. i heard no complaints.

I also visited my hall on weekends when they had 2+ events going on....everything was fine...no mixed parties/issues and they keep the doors closed to keep noise down.

For my FH and I it did matter, but that was because we wanted the grounds of our RH to ourselves for pictures and for our cocktail hour to be outside. I have been to several weddings that cater to more than one event at a time and they were great. I barely noticed that their were other events going on. East Wind was awesome at handling separate affairs at one time and so was Mediterranean Manor in Patchogue.

2009!! Wow!! Congratulations!

Anyway, no, I don't think it really matters. There were other events going on during my wedding and I honestly didn't even notice. I noticed a few guests walking around upstairs that were from a different party, but that was it.
No problems at all. It might depend on the place, but for the most part, these halls are very good at keeping simulaneous events very seperate from each other.

I completely agree...I just went to one the end of june, where there were two weddings next to each other. They were staggered so both groups were not showing up at the same time. And they shared a bathroom, which really wasn't a big deal (however the other wedding had a brawl in the boys room, but thats not a usual occurance). As I went to the bathroom, the other group was lining up for pictures...and honestly even when I saw them I was like awwww!!!

Wow! Those were some quick responses! This place is great! Thank you all so much

I guess you're right, it does depend on the facility... right now, I'm most interested in Chateau La Mer and the Westbury Manor... and a couple of others that I haven't yet visited.

I'm glad to know that those of you who had weddings at these kinds of halls didn't encounter any problems! I guess I'll keep them on the top of my list for now

We loved having our wedding at a one at a time place. I would say it wasn't a must have when we were looking but we were glad we did.

Well, I suppose I am biased, but Westbury Manor is fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally, I only looked at places where it was 1 wedding at a time.

That was the #1 thing while looking at a hall

2009 Wow.
Congratulations!
I wanted to be the only bride that day for the reason I didn't want to run into/hear the other wedding.
I haven't heard to many complaints in this area. There was one that said you could hear the music from the other weding, but I have been to places that do more than one at a time and enver noticed it.
The Sand Castle does more than one but you barely run into each other unless your going outside to smoke.

I went to a wedding where they hold multiple events at the same time and when they were exchanging vows you could hear the music blaring from the next room. That was bad.

I wanted a place with only 1 event for that reason.

Just be aware that you will be dictated by their times then and there might not be a lot of wiggle room to start at a different time. They still want to get in 2 weddings a day

It definately depends on the reception hall...I was at the Meditarranean Manner (Patchogue NY) and they had two events going at the same time ~ but as we were done with the cocktail hour they switched us into our room and then started shortly after that the next cocktail hour....they planned it very well!

I personally like my place (The Crescent Beach Club) because we're the only wedding there that day! Sometimes, they hold two weddings on a day, but they never do two weddings at a time.

I don't like the possibility of passing another bride in a wedding dress. It might seem silly, but that's just a 'thing' with me.

Also, my brother went nuts making sure there were no kids at his wedding when he got married at Jericho Terrace in 2000, and it turned out there was a Bar Mitzvah next door to his wedding at the same time he was getting married with kids running around! So just keep in mind that it might not just be a WEDDING taking place next door... it might be another type of event altogether!

(by the way... if you're still looking, check out the Crescent Beach Club... it's BREATHTAKING. And since you're booking now for 2009, you'll probably get the 2006 rates for 2009 wherever you book... good call!).

Welcome to liweddings... congratulations on your engagement - and good luck with planning! You're gonna love this website!!!

I have been to a lot of wedding that did more than one wedding at a time and I never encountered any problems with it. You may run into another wedding party in the bathroom, but they usually space it out that you don't have your CH at the same time as the other weddings. I would think that a place that does 4 or 5 weddings a day or night you might run into a problem with picture time, but a place that does 2 or 3 weddings will be ok. Good Luck!

You all are AWESOME!

Thank you all for the congrats and advice!

CLMon7906, that's a great idea...to visit on the weekend when simultaneous events are going on to get a sense of the organization and control.

I will check out the Crescent Beach Club, SarahRadio5...thanks.

...and is that how it works...if I book now, in '06 for '09, I'm likely to get lower rates? Anyway though, we're still in college so... making payments so soon might be a bit rough.

Thanks again everyone!

Re: One event at a time....does it even matter?

I never thought I would care if there was one wedding at a time, but I had attended two weddings where it was an issue.
One place had girls from another wedding throwing up in the bathroom. And another place you could hear the music from the other wedding during the speeches.

While I was looking for places, I had originaly booked a place that did have more then one wedding at a time, but after hearing some negative feedback about the bathroom and other stuff, I decided to find another place that did one at a time.

Yeah, but I think, if anything, you'll just have to put down a deposit to lock in those rates, and then your final payments won't be due until the few months leading up to the wedding. Just don't rush into any decisions that you may want to change down the line. I made the mistake of booking a florist as soon as I was engaged, and then had to wiggle my way out of the 'contract' when i found a MUCH better florist. It's a good idea to do searches on here for reviews before you book anything and get feedback from other brides. This site will be a great tool for you! Let us know if you need anything!

Re: One event at a time....does it even matter?

It was very important to us. We had had two not so good experiences at halls that do multiple events. It was just so great to have the entire place to yourselves and to know that everyone that works there is working for you that day!
