Her husband walked out on her and her daughter and emptied their bank account!! Plus her sister is ill, so she's caring for her 2 little nephews. She's not even sure if she'll be able to make it to the wedding at all I feel so awful for her and wish there was something I could do. I offered to pay for everything including the dress and a round-trip plane ticket, but she said she can't take it. She wants me to keep her dress (we're the same size) or try to find a replacement BM, but I don't want one.
So now, I only have 2 girls

I am so sorry to hear this. That was sweet of you to offer to pay for everything. I am sure she knows how lucky she is to have a friend like you.
If there is no one else you would want to ask then don't. Don't fill the spot just to have extra people.

That is a very tough situation, it was so thoughtful of you to pay for everything, I am just sure she is in a state of shock, hurt, anger and every other emotion you can think of. She probably just feels extremely upset and thinks it is better to just back out. I would support her decision and maybe try to find someone else, if not..take my word less is more..My BMs started to drive me insane

Yeah, it really sux because when I chose my BP, I couldn't imagine anyone but my 3 girls and it breaks my heart to know what she's going thru and I know how bad she feels about not being there for me. I'm not going to ask anyone to take her spot because she really is irreplacable!

Well, there is your answer, just have the two girls and be there for her. I am sure she is going to be very honored that you are not replacing her, I know I would. I am sure you will be upset, but just remember what she is going through and I am sure you will be OK with your situation..Good Luck

Re: One of my BMs dropped out
awe - you are a really good friend.
I had a BM also drop out - but for other reasons - and tried to take the same approach....you're doing the right thing.
Can you send her a cute card or something to let her know you're thinking about her and wish her well in the things she's going thru?

I actually just sent her a spa gift certificate to a place that has day care so she can have a minute of relaxation even if she can't get a babysitter! We used to go to Gurney's Spa all the time when she lived in NY so I know she'll appreciate it

for you and your friend.
i'd say to be there for her and hold onto the dress in case her circumstances change. maybe tell her that she can be an honorary BM in spirit whether she can make it or not, and if things happen to change between now and then the dress will be waiting for her. or, she could come as a guest and you could give her a corsage.
edit: just saw how soon your wedding is. too late to ask someone else IMO. Just tell her you love her and iwll be there for her, and if she can come as a BM or a guest you'd love her to be there.

I am going to hold onto the dress and may keep it for myself if she doesnt wear it since I do love it and its not too bridesmaid-ish I may wear it to anotther wedding. I am praying that she will be able to attend and the corsage is a really nice idea. Speaking of flowers, I need to call Pedestals to cancel her bo-k for now
