So, as some of you know, I have been a little over-concentrated on my armpit fat. Well, I had the brilliant idea that I would swim to help tone them up. So, I go to the gym and swim a ton of laps and come up with a another great idea - I would put a kickboard between my knees to keep my legs afloat while I work out just the arms. OK, fine...so the next day, I can barely walk. I can't sit down, lying down hurts...I basically threw out my back and am in TONS of pain. And I have to get on the plane to go home to LI tomorrow! 5 hours of one position sounds torturous. OWWWWWWWWW!!!
Moral: armpit fat is FINE!!!!

Re: One step too far!
im sorry, take a hot bath if you can or put a heating blanket on your arms or hot water bottle...also after you work out so hard stretch when you're done so you can be less sore, but good thing is that it means its working if its sore.

oh i thought your arms were hurting you lol sorry...but yeah you can just apply heat to your back its even easier this way. Or get one of those adhesive pads from a drugstore, get the icyhot ones or something similar

Re: One step too far!
wow, swimming is one of the least-impactful sport, and is actually recommended to people with back problems.
are you sure you didn't throw out your back through some other activity??
feel better regardless!

Re: One step too far!
It could be that you used a kickboard to hold your legs up. They actually make things called pull buoys for that purpose alone. They are shaped right to put between your feet. I think you can get them at Sports Authority, Modells, etc. That's if you want to try it again

Thanks everyone! I did get my doctor to prescribe a muscle relaxer. I'm not sure if it helps because I am out cold within minutes of taking it! In protest I am eating as much junkfood as I can find!

Awww w I am sooo sorry that you're in pain.
Now I dont mean to sound psycho but... Do you think it worked??? Then the pain is worth it. I HATE MY FAT ARMS so I can understand where you are coming from.

From your pictures I cant see where you have any armpit fat, or problematic areas at all, however if you would like to tone the area your probably better off with weights or pushups. I dont think there are any specific armpit toning programs lol so I would work on upper arms, upper back and chest.

FH's back goes out a lot and when he takes muscle relaxers they do the same thing to him. Try taking 1/2 of a pill - and definitely try the heat wraps, they work wonders! Icy hot ones work very well too, but they do make you stink a bit
Good luck and feel better!

Re: One step too far!
So now I have this image of you in this position (if I read correctly)... I think your back hurts because it was curved back from having your legs floating up and your head up too. Relax a bit with a warm bath and when you are feeling better go back to just swimming. Your motivation to get rid of this armpit fat is def admireable but I'm sure you'll be fine with just swimming your normal way

That's exactly right. I was a giant U shape - no back should do that. Yes, I think I'll stick to regular strokes from now on. I'm trying to pack and I can't bend over to get things out of the bottom drawer. And I am bloated from eating all the chocolate in the house!

i second this idea!!! they actually have things to put between your legs so you can do the same exercise as you did without hurting your back just so you know for next time...bc that workout DEF works!
