One year ago today was the BLACKOUT!!!

Some of the restuarnts in the city are turning off the lights and living the day again.

ya me too. YUCK I also remember going to bet at 10pm and being up at 6am. LOL... That sucked.

what a bad day! Kev actually had a whole plan to bring me into the city and propose on the 15th - but we couldn't get in as it was basically closed! bah!

Still turned out wonderfully though - if not quite as planed :)

I never left my office. Jim got stuck in a subway for two hours. Our contingency plans kicked in. My building still stands, meet me there if youre in the city/I'll be there.

We slept in a pretty comfy office with a couch. Went to bed at 10 woke up at 3am. Office cafeteria opened up at 6pm the night of the black out with wraps and such that were still on ice but going to spoil if not eaten. Plus Ice to take back if you want, water and all sorts of chips, nuts, etc.. all free.

It actually was cool enough i need my light office sweater. Much to be said for tempered glass of large buildings.

ETA: breakfast was served banquet style and cots were made available by the nurses office as well as my company (being one who was seriously affected by 9/11) has a deal with a local hotel for rooms in times like that. I didnt want Jim & I to room with 5 other unknown co-workers. DRUNKEN unknown co-workers. Uhmm no.

It only got icky hot when the lights came back on. They gave us chartered buses back to Long Island. Problem was they literally dropped us off at the side of the road at the Glen Cove Exit off LIE.

Didn't the blackout happen in JUNE, not August? I think one of us has the date mixed up.

That person is most likely me... lol

It was today it was on the news. plus I remember my cousin had a 3 day old baby. No hot water to heat bottles no way to keep formula cold.

Actually, I remember now. My mom was away in Aug, and she was the only one that got through to my brother's cell phone - from SOUTH AMERICA.

Yeah- I remember it well...It was my BIRTHDAY!
I spent it alone b/c FH was walking home from NYC!!!!!
All my phones we're cordless so I had no contact with anyone!
I had Cocoa Krispies for my birthday dinner!
It was actually cool for like an hour or two, then it was just really pi$$ing me off!

I remember that so well too. Frankie was stuck at work, they weren't letting them leave until the next shift came in. I remember being really paniced like it was 9-11 all over again. Also thinking that we had only been home from our honeymoon a few days and darn why weren't we still in St. Lucia. I had every candle I owned out and my neighbors and I BBQ on my apartment's patio!!! But it was horribly hot and uncomfortable, that I do remember.

Yeah, it was still great - but afterward when he told me everything i felt so bad since he completly panicked and had to change everything at the last second. lol.

me tooo!!!! We were supposed to go to the Empire State building and do the audio tour and at the end of the audio tour he was going to propose (we had our first kiss at the ESB waaay back in 1995!) but the blackout ruined it!

We got engaged on Friday afternoon at a park by our house instead ... it was PERFECT though!

Fh and I flew into LGA from Indy that night. We hung out in the airport here in Indy for a couple of hours and they kept thelling us we would fly to NY even if they did not have lights. Well they were right - We did! it was totally freaky! there wasnt even lights on the runway! there were maintanence vechicles lined up along the runway w/ there headlights on. It was too wierd!

Wow seems like yesterday. I wonder how many people on LIW had Blackout Babies!

My son Andrew was born 40 weeks later on May 9th of this year. He was most certainly a blackout baby!!

the blackout was definatly august 14th..... I remember cause my birthday was the day before, and mikes parakeet died the day after

Wow, I can't believe I didn't realize it all on Friday. I didn't hear it on the news.
The funny thing is, my power did go out this year on the 14th too. I don't think for long, but things were out when I came out.
