When I was about 16 and would go out to dinner with my Dad, people would always think I was his wife or girlfriend Some people are just weird!

Very ignorant comments! Why bother making conversation at all if you can't do it with sensibility! Hopefully their embarassment will prevent them from oddball assumptions in the future!

At first we were both very mad but last night we were making a joke about it. I did something and he told me to stop and he said listen to your father.
Of course I was on 10 second delay....
But its true how ignorant can people be??

People say the stupidest things. My grandmother lives with us. People always think she is married to my father when we go out to dinner. Granted my father is 8 years older than my mother, but sheesh! People are always embarrassed when we tell them. My mother's side of the family all look really young... I think it is funny. I still get the kids menu when I go to Friendly's...for 12 and under..I will be 25 this year.

My FI isn't a very big guy, he's 5'4, same exact size as me... but he's 26. On the weekends, when he's not in a suit, and wearing his baseball cap and glasses, people have asked him numerous times if his Mom or Dad is home or at the store that he needs his Mom with him to see the items behind the case. He gets so upset, but I laugh b.c he is just too cute!

Melissa I've gotten proofed for lotto a few times also. The clerks just stand there staring at me trying to figure out how old I am and when they can't they ask me for ID.

Re: oooh people have no common sense...actually funny if i think about it
I had a picture of me and Frank on my desk at work from our wedding day. Everytime someone saw it they would say 'thats so sweet that you have a pic of you and your dad on your wedding day' They always felt dumb when I would correct them and say that's not my dad it's my husband. So I know how you feel. There is an 11 year age difference (27 - 38) but he doesn't look anywhere close to my dad's age of 52.

Chippa, me too! My friend Linda and I got CARDED at the MOVIE THEATRE once by some 12-year-old who was working the ticket counter! I am going to be 30 this year! GAH!!
Worse though, I think, was my MOH who is turning 31 but is 4'11' and looks very young. She was recently on a trip to Italy with a friend of hers who is a rather large woman, but only one year older than MOH. She went to buy a leather jacket and the vendor turned to the other woman and said, 'Why aren't you going to buy this for your daughter?!' YIKES!!

The girl at Subway asked if I was my FH's daughter once when we were getting lunch!
Are people insane? How is that small talk anyway?

Last week my dad had surgery and I went to see him at the hospital. One of the stupid nurses said, 'Okay, I'll just leave you with your little honey now.' I was like, uhh you mean daughter!

I know I would stop by to pick up cigs (before I quit) with my friend who is 3 years younger than me and they would not card her but card me for cigs and alcohol. Mind you I'm 27 years old and she looks really young. I actually had an argument with a clerk once who INSTISTED that I was using someone elses license. Even when I showed him my law school ID he said well if you have a fake license you WOULD have something else to make the other look more credible. UGH.

Re: oooh people have no common sense...actually funny if i think about it
My dad loves to gloat about this one-when I was in the hospital last month, my dad would come by during the day to visit since FH would be at work. Two nurses came into my room and were like 'Oh what a sweet, caring fiancee you have to come and visit so much-hold on to him forever'-I was like I am-he's my dad! Granted my dad is pretty young (45) but still, sheesh!

I had one of these happen to me too.
When mt family & I moved into our apartment (which was about 6 years ago), the neighbors were talking to my mom about how nice it is to have new neighbors, etc. The lady told my mom that she sees her daughter everyday and her husband's sister too (my aunt leaves up the block from us). My mom said, oh my sister-in-law was here?, the lady said yes the one that lives with you. My mom said lives with us? No that is my other daughter (which was me). The whole neighborhhod thought that me & my dad were brother & sister.
