oot guests

I sent out stds in July for my march wedding with the # to the Inn @ east wind for rooms. Well, when i went to block some a few months ago i found out there were only 7!! I blocked them along with 2 jr suites. I feel really bad that when the time comes i wont have enough rooms. FH and dad say that people had the opportunity to call when i sent out the stds but i still feel responsible since im getting married so far away. I was thinking of blocking off at the hampton inn or best western but what if people dont want to stay there and i get stuck with the bill?

FH says that whenever he had a destination party he made it his responibility to find a place to stay.....any feed back??

Yes, you did what you had to do and could do.

Many must realize that blocking for oot guests is a relatively new concept in wedding planning (only the last ten years at most). It's a great idea and convenient for your guests but your FH is right. For whatever reason it was their responsibility to call. You could offer them the info on the other hotels but I wouldn't block and get stuck with the bill.

I contacted the Marriott and the Hilton about blocking rooms. Neither of them charge you if the rooms aren't used. They release the block of rooms one month prior to the wedding date.

You might want to look into that. They shouldn't charge you if the rooms aren't used. That's BS.

Yes Elaina,
I tend to side with your Dad on this one. Reality is that although we want to everything and more we cannot - at some point the OOT have to fend for themselves -- you did all the hard work of creating the room block, planning the wedding, writing and sending the STD, now they need to pick up the phone and call with a credit card. Really not your problem.
That said, this is one of those great uses for a wedding website if you have one -- you can add the tel numbers of the alternate sites there and offer that info to your OOT guests.
Good luck to you.
