OOT guests - blocking rooms 101

It seems I have alot more OOTers coming to attend the wedding than I originally expected... I have no place for these folks to stay and I have no idea what the wedding ettiquette/procedure is here in getting these guests accomodations...

What's my next step? How do I go about blocking rooms? Do I have to pay for the rooms? Do I have to pay a fee to block?

Any suggestions from those who went through it are greatly appreciated....

Thanks!!

nope u do not have to pay for rooms! I don't know where ur wedding is, but if u're anywhere in nassau we used the Wingate Inn in Garden City. They offered a great group rate... it included breakfast in the morning & they also kept the cash bar open at no charge for an after party....they they also provided shuttle service to & from the reception! Most hotels do let u block rooms for an event - so just call around and ask to see who still has rooms available

if they tell u u have to pay upfront.. RUN!! some hotel told fh this. i was like no dear that' wont work.. they put the rooms on hold and folks call in and get the reduced rate when they reserve their room. no obligation to u at all..

You won't have to pay for the rooms. Just call the sales dept of whatever hotel youre looking into and see what they can offer you as far as a group rate.

We've blocked rooms at the Sheraton in Smithtown... they blocked 10 rooms for us, once those were filled up, they blocked another 10 and so on...

Your guests usually will have about a month until the wedding to book their rooms. Youre not obligated to pay unless its 2 days befpre the wedding and you cancel? (Im not sure)

I blocked 12 rooms at the Uniondale Marriott for the night before the wedding and the wedding night. My OOT guests will get a discounted rate as long as they mention my name when they call to make their reservation. The rooms will be held until one month before the wedding. Then, the rooms will be released to the public.
